Warriors Hit Five NCAA Provisional Marks at Bison Open and Multi

LEWISBURG – East Stroudsburg University athletes accounted for five NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks, including both Distance Medley Relays, at the Bison Open and Multi at Bucknell University this weekend.

Three ESU men had provisional marks in junior Keith Parker-Washington in the 200m (22.58), sophomore Donovan Tolbert in the triple jump (48-0) and sophomore Travis Toth in the weight throw (56-4). Tolbert bettered his provisional mark of 47-9 which he set in the season opener at Lehigh.

In the women's DMR, junior Kim Wernerspach, senior Lauren Ventrella, sophomore Imani Rosario and senior Rose Mascoli ran 12:24.55, the fifth-fastest in school history, to place fifth.

For the men, senior Mike Saparito, sophomore Damien Boham and seniors Amr Aldeen and Frank Fezza ran 10:15.18, seventh-fastest in school history, and also placed fifth.

Tolbert won both the triple jump and high jump (6-6 1/4) with career-best marks and was one of three individual winners. Boham won the 500m in 1:05.72 – just .34 off the school record – and senior James Romano won the 5000m in 15:39.24 with a margin of victory of 51-hundredths of a second.

The men's 4x400m relay was also victorious, with sophomore Kyle Rickard, Parker-Washington, freshman William Berry and Boham running 3:24.09.

Ventrella had the fastest time in the prelims of the 60m hurdles (9.17) but did not compete in the final.

Second-place finishes came from junior Rachel Pierantozzi in the 60m dash (7.87), sophomore Danielle Smith in the 200m (26.43), senior Corinne Fitzgerald in the 3000m (10:23.03), sophomore Christina O'Connor in the high jump (5-5), junior Elizabeth Madden in the weight throw (50-3 1/2), Parker-Washington in the 200 and senior Mike Saparito in the 1000m (2:33.81).

In the pentathlon, junior Theresa Horn had a PR and the sixth-best score in school history with 2,941 points to place third. Senior Aniyah Williams was fourth with 2,892 points.

Junior Brittany Jones was third behind Pierantozzi in the 60m dash with a PR of 8.05 seconds, and Pierantozzi was also fifth in the 200m finals in 26.64. Wernerspach was fourth in the 800m with a PR of 2:21.41.

On the men's side, sophomore Brandon Mercer was fourth in the 60m dash finals (7.07) after running third in the prelims (7.12). Senior Amr Aldeen was third in the mile (4:24.49), senior Frank Fezza was fifth in the 3000m (8:41.16) and senior Kyle Soden was fourth in the 60m hurdles prelims (8.60) but did not contest the final.

ESU has five individual NCAA provisional qualifiers this year in Parker-Washington (200m), Tolbert (triple jump), Toth (weight throw), O'Connor (high jump – 5-7 1/4) and junior Laura Beimfohr (pole vault – 11-5 3/4).

The Warriors host the 14th Annual Dick DeSchriver Invitational next Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse.
