EDINBORO – Sophomore Danielle Smith won the 60m and 200m, sophomore Christina O'Connor won the high jump and the men's 4x400m relay sealed a second-place team finish with a photo finish victory for East Stroudsburg University at the 2013 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, which concluded Sunday at Edinboro.

ESU's men's team finished as the runner-up for the fifth time in the last eight PSAC Championships, combining the indoor and outdoor seasons.

The women finished fourth and had three individual winners in Smith, O'Connor and junior Elizabeth Madden, who won the weight throw on Saturday.

Men's Results

ESU held a 4.5 point lead over Slippery Rock for second place going into the 4x400, and wrapped up the meet with a .007 margin of victory over Shippensburg, with Slippery Rock finishing third.

The quartet of junior Keith Parker-Washington, freshman William Berry, sophomore Damien Boham and senior Mike Saparito clocked 3:17.98 (3:17.971) to edge Shippensburg (3:17.978), which officially had an identical time.

ESU used its depth in the relays to score 24 points – 10 in the 4x4, eight with a second-place finish in the 4x8 and six with a third-place finish in the DMR. Saparito ran on all three, anchoring the 4x8 and leading off for the DMR.

The Warriors' men had top-four performances in 10 individual events over the weekend, particularly in the track finals contested on Sunday. Shippensburg won the team title with 197.5 points, followed by ESU (119.5), Slippery Rock (111) and fourth-place Lock Haven (65).

ESU was previously runner-up at the indoor championships in 2010, and finished second outdoors three straight years from 2009-11. The Warriors have finished fourth or better at nine straight PSAC Championships since the 2009 season.

Boham was second in the 400m in 49.00, bettering his qualifying mark of 49.01 in the prelims. Saparito ran third in the 800m in 1:54.81 and Parker-Washington was fourth in the 200m in 22.37.

Saparito anchored his second career PSAC relay title to go with his 2011 indoor titles in the 800m and 4x800m relay. He has finished in the top three in the indoor 800 three times in his career.

Parker-Washington picked up his fourth career relay title, adding it to the indoor and outdoor 4x400 relays as a freshman in 2011 and last year's 4x100m relay outdoors.

In the 60m dash, the Warriors earned 11 points with sophomore Brandon Mercer fourth (7.06), freshman Mark Burgess fifth (7.07) and freshman Joey Bruno seventh (7.16).

They gained nine more points in the 3000m, where junior Chris Schneider was fourth (8:35.95) and senior Frank Fezza was fifth (8:37.80). Senior Amr Aldeen was fifth in the mile in 4:19.39. Fezza was third and senior James Romano was fourth in the 5000m on Saturday, and all four were scorers on the Warriors' PSAC runner-up and NCAA Division II qualifying cross country team in the fall – led by Fezza, an All-American who was second in the PSAC and Atlantic Region.

Senior Kyle Soden scored in two events, placing third in the 60m hurdles (8.46) and tied for eighth in the high jump (6-2 3/4), where he was the defending champ. He has scored in the high jump in all seven PSAC meets in his career, along with five scoring performances in the hurdles.

The Warriors had four scorers in the high jump with three over 6-6 3/4. Freshman William Berry and sophomore Donovan Tolbert were tied for third, and freshman Seth Bailey finished fifth.

Tolbert also secured a top-three finish in the triple jump, placing third with a mark of 47-6 1/2.

Senior Andrew Sloves picked up two points in the heptathlon, placing seventh with 4,249 points for a PR of 278 points. Freshman Eric Conard was ninth (4,180) with a 257-point PR.

On Saturday, the Warriors had 11 points from Fezza and Romano in the 5K and 12 points from sophomores Travis Toth (2nd, 59-1 1/2) and Mike Smith (5th, 56-2) in the weight throw.

The 4x800 relay of freshman Dmitri Mobley, Boham, Schneider and Saparito was second in 7:49.49. The DMR of Saparito, Berry, Aldeen and Fezza was third in 10:12.44.

Women's Results

O'Connor continued ESU's run in the women's high jump, winning with a mark of 5-7 3/4 to give the Warriors five of the last seven PSAC titles in the event. Lynn Mayer, a six-time All-American, won four straight in 2010 and 2011. O'Connor entered the weekend ranked fourth on the national list at 5-8 1/2. She won on fewest number of misses with Slippery Rock freshman Ashley West also clearing the height.

Smith added two PSAC indoor titles to her 100m and 200m outdoor titles from last spring, winning the 60m dash in a school-record 7.66 seconds and capturing the 200m in 25.04. She was the top qualifier for both events from the prelims, running 7.72 and 24.99, respectively.

Junior Rachel Pierantozzi also scored in both of the sprints, finishing fourth in the 60 in 7.83 and sixth in the 200 in 25.77. Her 200 time was a PR and the 60 time was identical to her time in the prelims, with is one-hundredth off a PR.

The 4x400m relay finished fourth in 3:59.90 with Ventrella leading off, followed by senior Aniyah Williams, Smith and Rosario.

The Warriors picked up valuable team points on Saturday as well, including Madden's PSAC title and school record in the weight throw (52-1 3/4).
