NEWARK, Del. – Sophomore Casey Ellis finished as the runner-up in the men's race, and all 10 scoring Warriors placed in the top 20 as East Stroudsburg University's men's and women's cross country teams each took second place at Delaware's Blue and Gold Invitational on Saturday.

The Warrior women were second out of nine teams in their 6k completion, while the men were second out of six in their 8k race.

Ellis crossed the line second in a field of 69 runners after completing the course in 27:37.00. Sophomore Teddy Mostellar also cracked the top five, as his time of 27:49.00 was good enough for fifth place.

All five ESU men's scorers placed in the top 10. Junior Jeremy Smith (28:11.90) was seventh, senior Tom Ciaccio (28:18.20) was ninth and sophomore Andy Lopez (28:23.00) was 10th.

The Warriors had a final team score of 33 points, finishing just back of Wilmington's 30 points in first place. Wilmington runner Mark Corrigan was the top individual finisher at 27:01.30.

Junior Jenna Vledder paced the ESU women for a third-consecutive meet, recording a time of 24:55.10 to take eighth place in a field of 85 runners. She was followed by junior teammate Rachael Davalos, who was only 12 seconds back in ninth place after crossing the line in 25:07.10.

Sophomore Brittany Carratura (25:21.00), freshman Kylie Stangle (25:33.60) and junior Emily Eder (25:55.90) followed in 11th, 14th and 20th place, respectively, as the Warrior women maintained their same first through fifth individual finishes from the previous meet at Lehigh.

Host Delaware had the top seven finishers in the women's race, as the Blue Hens topped the team standings with the smallest possible total of 15 points. ESU was next with 60 points, well ahead of third-place Millersville's 110-point total. Delaware's Jeanette Bendolph completed the race first individually in 23:32.00.

The Warrior cross country teams are off next weekend before returning to action on Friday, Oct. 19 at Lebanon Valley's Last Chance Run Fast Invitational. That will be ESU's final competition prior to the PSAC Championships, which will be held this year at Edinboro on Saturday, Nov. 3.
