DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Competing in a meet which totaled over 900 runners across four races, East Stroudsburg University's men's and women's cross country teams each registered strong seventh place showings to begin their seasons at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.

The Warriors placed seventh out of 41 schools in the men's varsity race, and they were seventh out of 45 in the women's varsity competition.

Sophomore Casey Ellis had the top individual performance on the afternoon, as he crossed the line 20th out of 295 runners with an 8k time of 25:42.77. Ellis was ESU's top finisher in five of his six meets during his debut season last fall.

Junior Jeremy Smith (25:58.54) was only 16 seconds behind in 30th place, and sophomore Teddy Mostellar (26:17.86) added a top 50 finish in 39th. Sophomore Andy Lopez (52nd, 26:40.55) and senior Tom Ciaccio (79th, 27:13.79) rounded out the top five scorers for the Warrior men, while sophomore Nathan Senatore (27:17.63) finished four seconds back of Ciaccio in 83rd place.

ESU totaled 218 points as a team overall. Southern New Hampshire topped the team standings with 74 points; Plymouth State's Sam Brunnette was the number one individual finisher at 24:32.02.

Jenna Vledder was a three-time scorer for the ESU women last fall, ranking fifth on the team on all three occasions, but she made a big leap in her junior-year debut on Saturday. Vledder was the first Warrior to cross the line after she completed the 5k course in 19:35.23. That time ranked her 38th out of 318 runners.

Junior Rachael Davalos was the next ESU finisher, taking 57th place with a time of 19:55.11. Other scoring runners were sophomore Brittany Carratura (71st, 20:03.63), freshman Kylie Stangle (83rd, 20:15.63) and sophomore Mandy Fine (20:27.01). Junior Emily Eder (20:30.72) and freshman Kaylene Raczka (20:34.13) were each less than 10 seconds back of Fine's finishing time.

Brandeis' Emily Bryson won the women's race with a mark of 17:54.59, and Brandeis also topped the team standings with a total of 56 points. ESU's seventh-place showing came with a score of 340 points.

The Warriors also had a pair of top 10 finishers in the sub varsity races. Senior Khai Samuels (27:21.68) was ninth out of 165 runners in the men's race, while junior Rachel Eidson (20:34.13) placed ninth out of 187 runners in the women's race.
