BETHLEHEM, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University took part in the largest intercollegiate cross country meet in the nation on Saturday, racing in the 45th annual Paul Short Run at Lehigh.
The day-long event included 14 races (six college, six high school, two open) and approximately 6,000 total athletes. The ESU women, competing in the "White" race, placed fourth out of 43 schools, while the men ranked 29th in the "Brown" race which included 17 Division I institutions.
Junior
Jenna Vledder paced the Warrior women for a second-straight meet to begin the year, as she finished 23rd out of 357 runners with a 6k time of 23:59. Vledder ranked 38th out of 318 competitors at ESU's season-opening race at UMass Dartmouth two weekends ago.
The Warriors' second through fourth scorers also remained the same from UMass Dartmouth. Junior
Rachael Davalos (24:24) placed 35th overall, sophomore
Brittany Carratura (24:39) was 42nd and freshman
Kylie Stangle (24:50) was 55th.
Junior
Emily Eder rounded out the scorers in 75th place after completing the course in 25:13; she cracked ESU's top five for a third time in her collegiate career.
Sophomore
Casey Ellis once again led the Warrior men after registering an 8k time of 26:30. That placed him 81st overall out of 363 runners.
Sophomore
Teddy Mostellar was next to finish for ESU, taking 92nd place with a mark of 26:37. He was followed by senior
Tom Ciaccio (183rd, 27:19), junior
Jeremy Smith (193rd, 27:26) and sophomore
Nathan Senatore (227th, 27:43). Senatore finished in a scoring position for the first time at ESU.
The Warriors head to another Division I school for their next meet, traveling to Delaware for the Blue & Gold Invitational next Saturday.
