Webster Sets School Record in 100m, ESU Adds 10 Qualifiers on Day 2 of PSAC Championships

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Junior Tiana Webster set the school record on Friday in the 100-meter dash, while senior Victoria Matthews finished fourth in the heptathlon following the completion of the second day at the 2019 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Mansfield.
 
Webster ran the fastest time in the 100-meter dash (11.80) and will be seeded first heading into the finals on Saturday. Along with setting the school record in the event, she also hit an NCAA DII provisional mark for the Warriors. Junior Marissa Flim just missed qualifying for ESU, finishing 10th with a time of 12.14.
 
Matthews tallied a total of 4,153 points through seven events in the heptathlon for ESU. Her point total is a personal best and ranks eighth all-time in program history. She finished first in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:25.80 and placed third in the long jump with a mark of 16-11 1/2. Matthews also set a personal-best in the javelin with a mark of 59-2.
 
Webster would also qualify for the Warriors in the 200-meter dash, placing fifth with a time of 25.54. Junior Sarah Klag was the top finisher in the 400-meter dash, qualifying for the finals on Saturday with a time of 58.31.
 
ESU added three qualifiers in the 100-meter hurdles as senior Aspen Gaita paced the field with a time of 14.40. Freshman Jeanette Jones ran to a third-place finish with a personal-best time of 14.89, while senior Briana Hall added a personal-best time of 15.21 to place sixth. Jones' time ranks sixth all-time in program history, while Hall's time is seventh all-time.
 
Junior Allyson Stitzer paced three Warriors that would qualify in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.41. Jones placed fourth with a personal-best time of 1:05.47, while Gaita ran to a fifth-place finish with a personal-best time of 1:06.11.
 
The 4x100-meter relay team of Flim, Webster, junior Morgan Dey, and Gaita placed first and qualified for Saturday's finals in the event with a time of 47.59, which matched a season-best.
 
ESU is currently 10th out of 15 schools in the team standings heading into the final day of competition at the 2019 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Warriors will compete in a total of 13 events tomorrow.
