Gaita Claims 100m Hurdles Title, ESU Finishes Fourth in Team Standings at PSAC Championships

MANSFIELD, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University finished fourth in the team standings and had its best overall finish since 2012 on Saturday at the 2019 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Mansfield. The Warriors placed second in 2012 and fifth in 2013.
 
Senior Aspen Gaita brought home a first-place finish for the Warriors in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.38. Freshman Jeanette Jones matched her personal-best time in the event (14.89) and finished third, while senior Briana Hall placed seventh with a time of 15.35.
 
Junior Allyson Stitzer ran a time of 1:03.99 to record a third-place finish for ESU in the 400-meter hurdles, while Jones notched a personal-best time of 1:04.84 to place fourth. Gaita placed sixth with a time of 1:07.55.
 
In the high jump, senior Carly Gregas tied a personal-best to finish third for ESU with a mark of 5-5 1/4. Senior Victoria Matthews finished sixth with a mark of 5-3, while junior Tatiana Williams delivered a personal-best mark of 5-3 to place eighth.
 
Junior Tiana Webster recorded a pair of top-eight finishes on the day for ESU. She ran to a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.27 and a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.90.
 
Junior Sarah Klag notched a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 57.38. Her time ranks eighth all-time in program history for the Warriors. Samantha Young delivered a sixth-place finish for ESU in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:47.95.
 
The 4x100-meter relay team of senior Marissa Flim, Webster, junior Morgan Dey, and Gaita recorded a season-best time of 47.56 to place third in the event. The time ranks fourth all-time in program history.
 
Competing in the 4x800-meter relay for the first time this season, junior Emily Eder, Young, sophomore Brittany Carratura, and junior Rachael Davalos recorded the ninth fastest time (9:41.55) in program history and placed seventh.
 
In field events, Williams placed fourth in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 37-1 3/4. Freshman Zionette Salahuddin notched a personal-best in the shot put and finished 14th with a mark of 37-7 1/4. Sophomore Gabrielle D'Amore recorded an eighth-place finish for ESU in the javelin with a mark of 127-3.
 
The 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships will take place, May 23-25, in Kingsville, Texas.
