EAST STROUDSBURG – The College Sports Information Directors of America recently released its 2019 Academic All-America teams for women's track & field/cross country, with East Stroudsburg University senior
Carly Gregas being named to the Third Team.
The Academic All-District and Academic All-America teams recognize student-athletes for athletic and academic achievements and are nominated and voted on by members of CoSIDA. District 2 of Division II follows the NCAA's regional model and includes all schools from the PSAC, MEC (Mountain East Conference) and CIAA (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association).
Gregas (Ashland, Pa./North Schuylkill) earns her first All-America award after garnering All-District honors in May. She matched a personal-best in the high jump in 2018-19 with a mark of 5-5 1/4. Gregas also matched her career-best outdoor finish after placing in a tie for third at the 2019 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She currently holds a 3.99 grade-point average at ESU, while majoring in speech pathology.
She has recorded five top-five finishes in the high jump at the PSAC Championships during her career and tallied a second-place finish for the Warriors at the 2019 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Gregas is a six-time conference qualifier and was named to the 2019 USTFCCCA Division II Indoor Atlantic All-Region team.
For her work in the classroom, Gregas has earned the DII Athletic Director's Association Academic Award, along with garnering PSAC Scholar-Athlete and Athletic Director's Honor Roll acclaim.
ESU's women's track & field/cross country programs have received 12 Academic All-America selections since 1983. Gregas becomes the sixth different Warrior to garner the award and first since Christina O'Connor in 2015. O'Connor is one of four Warriors that have earned the award multiple times.
Rose Mascoli (2011-13) and Laura Mason (1983-85) both earned All-America status three-times while at ESU.
Gregas is the fourth ESU student-athlete to receive All-America honors during the 2018-19 academic year (Nicole Abbott, Tiffany Lapotsky, and Christian Rishel). She becomes ESU's fifty-first student-athlete to earn Academic All-America distinction. The Warriors have garnered a total of 71 selections overall.
ESU's women's track & field/cross country programs have received 19 Academic All-District selections since 2000. A total of 108 student-athletes have combined for 156 selections since the inception of the Academic All-District program. Gregas is the fifth ESU student-athlete to receive all-district honors during the 2018-19 academic year (Nicole Abbott, Irvin Zuzic, Tiffany Lapotsky, and Christian Rishel).
