EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University redshirt senior forward
Josh Williams, who helped the Warriors to their second consecutive NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament appearance last March, has signed a professional basketball contract with the Den Helder Suns in the Dutch Basketball League, the country's top division.
Williams (Trenton, N.J./Notre Dame) was named first team All-PSAC East, second team D2CCA All-Region, and second team NABC All-Region and appeared in 28 games this winter for ESU. He becomes the second Warrior to join the Suns after standout forward
Steve Harris signed with Den Helder last season.
In his first year as a starter for the Warriors, Williams averaged 16.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game while reaching double figures in 24 games. He scored 20 or more points eight times, including a career-high 30 against Kutztown on Jan. 26.
Williams tallied 12 double-doubles, the most by any ESU player in at least 15 seasons and helped the Warriors top the PSAC East division standings for the fifth time in the past seven seasons. He ranked third in the PSAC in blocks per game, fourth in rebounding and field goal percentage.
He was just the second player and first since 1990 in program history to receive four PSAC Athlete of the Week laurels in a single season. Williams was also the first Warrior since Matt Tobin in 2015 to earn All-Region status from both the D2CCA and NABC.
Williams was a member of the Warriors for three seasons after transferring from Division I Rider. He made 82 career appearances for ESU and totaled 807 points. He would add 458 of those points during his senior season.
In 2017-18, Williams appeared in 33 games for ESU as the Warriors captured both the PSAC and Atlantic Region championships. Williams averaged 7.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per outing for the Warriors.
ESU ended this season with a final record of 21-8, earning the program's 12th 20-win season and advancing to the DII tournament for the sixth time in the last 10 years. The Warriors also captured their sixth PSAC East regular-season championship in 10 years.
