ESU Baseball Announce 2019 Bat Club Inductees

EAST STROUDSBURG - The East Stroudsburg University baseball program will induct the seventh class of its "Bat Club" on Saturday, September 28, which will include a scrimmage and alumni social.

Three Warriors - outfielder Mike Bortz (2008-09), outfielder Bryan Yagel (2001-02) and pitcher Mike Zimorowicz (1999-2002) - join 22 previous inductees.

The event will be held in conjunction with ESU's scrimmage against Lehigh Carbon Community College beginning at 9 a.m.

Following the completion of the game an alumni batting practice and social will be held at 2 p.m. followed by the Bat Club Event at 4 p.m. The event is free and will include appetizers, food, and drink with the dress being casual.

Previous inductees to the Bat Club are - pitcher/shortstop Joel Bennett, outfielder J.D. Stern, second baseman Jacob DeBoer and pitcher Jeremy Gigliotti (2013), pitcher/infielder/outfielder Tim Bishop, shortstop Brett Reynolds, outfielder Josh Butler and third baseman Mark Angelo (2014), pitcher Mike Balent, outfielder Kyle Sheaffer, pitcher Christian Saveri and pitcher/first baseman Brian Ernst (2015), pitcher Don Rentschler, second baseman Tadgh La Bar and outfielder Kevin Thompson (2016), and catcher/third baseman Pete Radocha, second baseman Ryan Hatfield, catcher/designated hitter Nico Delerme and outfielder Chris Knott (2017), and shortstop Evan Gallagher, outfielder Eric Boyer, and second baseman Joe Bennie (2018).

Information on the Bat Club honorees is below:

Mike Bortz - 2nd Team, ABCA Rawlings All-Region Gold Glove (OF), 1st Team All-PSAC (OF), 2nd Team All-PSAC (OF) Career .343 hitter with 309 plate appearances. Had a .433 on-base percentage and a .599 slugging percentage. Ranks 12th in program history with 14 home runs and 14th in extra base hits (48). Recorded 20 doubles during the 2009 season to go along with 7 home runs, 58 runs batted in and 59 runs scored.

Bryan Yagel - 1st Team NCAA North Atlantic Region (1B), 1st Team All-PSAC (OF), 2nd Team All-PSAC (OF) 5th best batting average (.376) in program history and finished with 109 runs batted in (10th all-time). Hit .430 during the 2001 season with 64 hits and a program-record 63 runs batted in. Recorded 305 putouts during the 2001 season, which ranks 9th all-time.

Mike Zimorowicz - PSAC East Pitcher of the Week (2000), Tied for second in program history in wins (19), fifth in career strikeouts (200), second in innings pitched (240), tied for fourth in games played (53) and games started (35), fourth in career shutouts (3). He went 5-1 in 1999 with a 1.96 ERA. Had 57 strikeouts in 65 innings pitched in 2001 and 53 through 59 innings and 12 starts in 2002. Tied freshman record for wins (5) as a freshman in 1999 and tossed a no-hitter against Bloomsburg on April 1, 2000.
