LEWISBURG, Pa. –
Me'Saj Closs highlighted competition for the East Stroudsburg University women's track & field team on Saturday at the Gulden Invitational, setting a new indoor school record in the weight throw with a toss of 55-6 ¼.
Closs' mark in the weight throw earned her a first-place finish in the event and broke the previous ESU record of 55-3 ½, which was set by
Elizabeth Madden back in 2014.
Following up Closs in the weight throw,
Sam Giangrasso finished fourth with a throw of 50-6 ¼,
Taylor Barkman set a new PR with a 46-11 to place sixth, and
Barbara Grossov registered a toss of 45-11 ¾.
Closs also earned ESU's top showing in the shot put with a season-best mark of 41-9 ¾, which put her in fourth place in the event.
In the mile,
Brittany Carratura crossed the line in 5:26.66 for ESU's top finish, as she earned a PSAC qualifying bid with the performance. Joining Carratura as a new PSAC qualifier was
Mandy Fine in the 5000m, as she posted a time of 19:04.54.
In the high jump, the Warriors' top-two finishers both had impressive showings as
Tatiana Williams tied her PR with a leap of 5-3 to take fifth place, and
Jannae Bonds set a new PR of 5-1 to finish seventh.
The pole vault saw
Nickolina Annelli register a fourth-place showing, as the freshman registered a new PR of 11-3 ¾.
Hannah Frankenfield and
Juliana Schraer each hit marks of 10-4.
Tiana Webster was the team's top finisher in both the 60m and 200m. She clocked in at 7.75 in the 60m to tie for third place, and notched a time of 26.52 in the 200m.
Gianna Gomez claimed a new PR in the triple jump with a leap of 35-1 ¾, and
Jeanette Jones tied her PR in the 60m hurdles in 9.41.
Allyson Stitzer posted the top showing for the Warriors in the 500m, crossing the finish line in 1:24.42.
In the 4x400m relay, the team of Jones, Stitzer,
Ariel Kyle and
Sarah Klag combined for a time of 4:07.50.
The next action for the Warriors will be at ESU's own Deschriver Invitational on Saturday, February 1 at Koehler Fieldhouse.
