ESU Women’s Track and Field Rounds Out Opening Day of PSAC Championships

EDINBORO, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team rounded out day one of the PSAC Indoor Championships on Saturday from the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome.

Me'Saj Closs earned ESU's top placing during the opening day, taking third in the weight throw with a toss of 53-0 ¼. Sam Giangrasso earned a 10th-place showing in the event with a mark of 48-11 ¾, and Barbara Grossov set a PR with a 47-3 ½, as she moved into ESU's all-time top-10 in the event, joining Closs and Giangrasso who already hold placings on the list. Alexis Schuldes (44-6) and Zionette Salahuddin (44-5 ½) were the team's next top finishers in the weight throw.

The Warriors earned a pair of top-10 showings in the pole vault, led by Nickolina Annelli, who placed seventh after clearing 10-5 ½. Hannah Frankenfield cleared 9-11 ¾ to finish 10th in the event.

Ayanna Whittaker earned a 12th-place showing in the pentathlon. She posted a PR of 9.74 to open things in the Pentathlon, and went on to claim eighth in the 800m portion (2:42.89) and ninth in both the long jump (15-6 ¾) and high jump (4-10 ¼).

Mandy Fine led ESU in the 5000m, registering a season-best time of 18:59.06 to finish in 12th.

In the long jump, Kamya Edmonds posted the team's top mark of 16-8 1/2, while Gianna Gomez registered a 15-4 ¼.

ESU's relay squad of Allyson Stitzer, Kylie Stangle, Kaylene Raczka and Brittany Carratura claimed a seventh-place showing in the 4x800m relay in 9:53.47, and the team of Stangle, Ariel Kyle, Haven Snyder and Rachael Davalos placed eighth in the distance medley relay in 13:05.92.

The Warriors had five runners earn qualifying times for finals during preliminary heats on Saturday. They had a pair qualify in the 60m, led by Tiana Webster, who posted the fourth-best time of 7.70. Briana Randolph set a PR of 7.75, which moved her into fourth on ESU's all-time top-10 in the event. Webster sits in second place on that list after clocking in at 7.65 in the event earlier this season.

In addition to her qualification in the 60m, Webster also will move on to the finals in the 200m after registering a PR of 25.82, which moved her into ninth on ESU's all-time top-10 in the event.

Jeanette Jones tied her PR in the 60m hurdles with a 9.34 to qualify for finals. Her time places her eighth on ESU's all-time top-10 in the event.

In the 400m prelims, Sarah Klag raced to a time of 58.58 to record the fourth-best time and move on to the finals.

The Warriors currently sit in 11th place in the team standings through seven events. West Chester occupies the top spot, while Slippery Rock and Seton Hill round out the top three.

ESU will close out the PSAC Championships with competition on Sunday beginning at 11:30 a.m. from the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome
