EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior
Me'Saj Closs broke her own record in the weight throw with a toss of 55-6 ½ at the East Stroudsburg University Quad Meet on Friday night at Koehler Fieldhouse. The Warriors also added six new PSAC qualifying marks at the meet.
Closs, who set the previous ESU record in the weight throw just two weekends ago at the Gulden Invitational, eclipsed her previous mark with a throw of 55-6 ½ on Friday, which earned her a first-place showing in the event.
Sam Giangrasso finished behind Closs in second, as she also set her PR with a 53-5 which is good for third-best in ESU history.
Taylor Barkman set her PR as well with a throw of 47-7 ¼ which moved her into eighth on the school's top-10 list, and
Barbara Grossov rounded out the team's top performers in the weight throw with a mark of 45-0 ½.
Tiana Webster put on another impressive performance in the 55m dash, racing to a first-place finish in 7.19 to tie her PR, which is fourth-best in ESU history.
Morgan Dey set a PR in the event and now sits in fifth on the top-10 list after clocking in at 7.22.
Taylor Allen (7.44) and
Jalen Rhodes (7.47) became new PSAC qualifiers in the 55m, joining Webster and Dey who previously qualified.
Webster and Dey were also ESU's top finishers in the 200m, with Webster leading the way in first place with a time of 26.25. Dey clocked in at 26.62 to earn a qualifying bid for conference championships, joining Webster as the team's two qualifiers in the event.
The 400m saw
Sarah Klag place first in 1:00.16, while freshman
Ariel Kyle finished second with a PR of 1:00.83, which earned her a PSAC qualification. Klag and Kyle are the two Warriors to qualify in the event this season.
Tatiana Williams once again led the way for the Warriors in the triple jump, winning it with a mark of 37-2 ½ to tie her PR, which is sixth on ESU's all-time top-10.
Thressia Nixon became a new PSAC qualifier in the event with a PR of 36-1 ¼, placing her in the top-10 alongside Williams. The pair are two of the three Warriors to qualify in the triple jump thus far. Williams also took first place in the high jump with a mark of 5-1.
The other Warrior to earn a new conference qualifying bid on Friday was
Gianna Gomez in the long jump. The sophomore made a leap of 16-10 to set a PR.
In addition to her school record in the weight throw, Closs also won the shot put with a toss of 41-8 ¾. Grossov (40-0),
Olivia Ellzy (38-3 ¼) and
Alexis Schuldes (36-5 ½) were the team's other top performers in the event.
The 55m hurdles saw
Jeanette Jones place second while setting a PR of 8.73, which puts her ninth on ESU's all-time top-10 list.
Misha Duverger finished third with a season-best time of 8.90.
In the mile,
Brittany Carratura crossed the finish line in 5:27.12 to take third place for ESU's top showing.
Freshman
Hannah Frankenfield tied for third in the pole vault as she cleared 10-10, and
Juliana Schraer posted a mark of 10-4.
ESU's relay squad of Jones, Klag, Webster and
Allyson Stitzer registered a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay in 4:10.02.
The Warriors won the quad meet with 117.50 team points, while West Chester (73), Kutztown (67.50) and Bloomsburg (24) rounded out the standings.
ESU returns to action on February 14 at the Fast Track Invitational hosted by Wagner.
