EAST STROUDSBURG - Former East Stroudsburg University men's basketball standout
Duane Johnson has signed a professional contract with BBC Arantia Larochette of the Total League in Luxembourg, the same league that former Warrior Steve Harris also recently signed in.
Johnson will begin his eighth season in the professional ranks, having also played in leagues in Australia and Ireland previously. During his time in professional ball, Johnson has played in the final of the Australian Big V in 2014, and received the Eurobasket.com All-Irish Premier League Center of the Year Award in 2016. In five games played in Luxembourg last season, Johnson averaged an impressive 30.0 points, 14.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game.
At East Stroudsburg from 2010-13, Johnson was a three-time All-PSAC East selection, as he's just one of four players in program history to earn the distinction in at least three seasons. Johnson helped lead the Warriors to a 2012 PSAC Championship and three appearances in the NCAA Tournament during his time with the Warriors.
He finished his career ranked seventh at ESU in career points (1,347), ninth in rebounds (608), fourth in steals (148), eighth in blocks (90) and second in free throws made (369). He and Jonathan Roberts are the only two players in school history to rank in the top 10 in both steals and blocks.
Johnson is also set to play in the upcoming 2020 The Basketball Tournament (TBT), a national 24-team tournament consisting mostly of former collegiate basketball players from across the country. Johnson will suit up for his team, Sideline Cancer, for a fifth-straight season. Sideline Cancer plays to help promote awareness for pancreatic cancer. The Griffith Family Foundation/Sideline Cancer was founded to honor the memory of Greg Griffith from Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, who lived courageously for 19 months with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer. Sideline Cancer is the only youth organization in the world that engages students and communities to use their philanthropic and entrepreneurial ideas to raise awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer research.
