Makar Breaks 42-Year Old School Record in Shot Put at Bill Butler Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Elizabeth Makar broke a 42-year old school record in the shot put with a throw of 45-3 3/4 (13.81m) to highlight the East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team on Saturday at the Bill Butler Invitational hosted by West Chester.

Makar eclipsed the previous program record of 45-1 1/2 set by Cheryl Baker in 1979 by two and a quarter inches. The freshman's throw won the event for the Warriors and currently ranks at the top of the PSAC. Makar was just shy of recording the provisional mark needed for the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships.

Graduate student Tiana Webster also picked up an event win for the Warriors in the 100m after clocking a time of 12.65 seconds. Webster returned later in the meet to earn a third place finish in the 200m with a time of 26.06 seconds. Freshman Ariel Kyle clocked a time of 26.67 seconds to finish fifth in the event.

In the 800m, graduate student Carly Danoski picked up another victory for ESU after finishing with a time of 2:17.59 and junior Brittany Carratura took third after clocking a personal-best time of 2:20.05.

Freshman Keely posted a 19:36.66 in the 5000m run to earn a third place finish and senior Rachel Davalos picked up a fourth place finish in the 1500m after clocking with a time of 5:03.09.

Junior Jeanette Jones had a solid day in both hurdle events as she took second in the 400m with a time 1:07.22 and third in the 100m after recording a season-best time of 15.67 seconds to place third.

Freshman Emily Furlong made her Warriors' debut on track and picked up a third place finish in the 3000m steeplechase after clocking a time of 13:24.87.

The Warriors closed out the running events with a second place finish in the 4x100m relay as the group of Ariel Kyle, Tiana Webster, Jeanette Jones, and Misha Duverger ran a time of 49.51 seconds.

Freshman Janelle Foston had an impressive debut in the triple jump as she finished as the runner-up with a mark of 35-0 1/2.

A trio of freshman finished third through fifth in the discus as Madison Horahan was third (126-6), Makar took fourth (125-7) and Isabella Marte came in fifth (119-3).

In the hammer, Marte followed up with a fourth place finish with a throw of 144-1 and Makar was fifth with a mark of 139-6.

The Warriors return to action next Saturday when they hose the 14th annual All-American Invite from Eiler-Martin Stadium beginning at 10:30 a.m.
