EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team swept the PSAC weekly awards as senior setter Ali Finch was honored as the East Athlete of the Week, while fellow senior libero Emily Meredith was named the East Defensive Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Finch (Cadillac, Mich/Cadillac) did a little bit of everything to help the Warriors to a 3-1 weekend at the ESU Invitational as she tallied 25 kills, 134 assists (8.93 per set) and 40 digs. She also added nine blocks and four aces to go along with a .319 attack percentage. Finch also recorded a pair of double-doubles with 25 assists/11 digs versus Pitt-Johnstown and 42 assists/12 digs against Kutztown. The senior's numbers earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Meredith (Canton, Mich./Canton) had an impressive defensive showing to help the Warriors as she recorded 73 digs (4.86 per set), 20 assists and three aces. In her first match against Saint Anselm, she tallied 26 digs and added an ace. Against Pitt-Johnstown, she tallied 22 digs, returned with 15 against Kutztown and closed out the weekend with 10 in a match win versus Caldwell.
Meredith garners her second Athlete of the Week award while Finch earns the honors for the first time with the Warriors. This is the third time in program history that a pair of ESU teammates have swept the weekly awards (Sam Dunphy, Trea-sure Setter – Oct. 1, 2019 & Sarah Smith, Meredith – Oct. 15, 2019).
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday when they head to Holy Family for a tri-match. ESU will have matches against the Tigers at 11 a.m. and Molloy at 1 p.m.
