EAST STROUDSBURG-- East Stroudsburg University men's basketball head coach
Jeff Wilson revealed his team's 2021-22 schedule on Wednesday.
"It's very exciting to be able to get back to playing games," said the 19th-year head coach of his 2021-22 schedule. "We're looking forward to initiating the 2021-22 season with a trip to West Liberty against Wheeling and WLU, two the perennial powers of the Mountain East Conference. From there, it will be a quick turnaround heading into PSAC action at Slippery Rock on Nov. 20."
As Wilson mentioned, the Warriors open the 2021-22 slate against Atlantic Region foes Wheeling (Nov. 12) and West Liberty (Nov. 13) for the Atlantic Region Crossover, hosted by WLU at the Academic Sports and Recreation Complex on the opening weekend of the season.
ESU immediately jumps into PSAC play the following week, heading to West Division foe Slippery Rock on Nov. 20. After a break for Thanksgiving, the Warriors open up the home slate against Seton Hill on Dec. 3, before welcoming Cal U to Koehler Field House the following day.
The Warriors will then head out of conference to Molloy for a road contest in Rockville Centre, N.Y. on Dec. 8. ESU closes out the non-conference slate against Georgian Court at Koehler Fieldhouse on Dec. 11.
ESU's remaining 19 contests are against PSAC opponents, heading west to Edinboro (Dec. 18) and Mercyhurst (Dec. 19) to wrap up 2021 season and its West Division competition.
Following the holiday break, ESU dives into divisional play against Mansfield on Jan. 5 before hosting Kutztown on Jan. 8.
On Jan. 10, ESU goes to Bloomsburg, before returning to the Poconos to face Millersville on Jan. 12.
After a road contest at Shippensburg on Jan. 15, ESU embarks on a three-game home stand against Lock Haven (Jan. 19), Gannon (Jan. 22) and West Chester (Jan. 24.) ESU will then head to Shepherd on Jan. 26, before hosting Shippensburg on Jan. 29.
The Warriors open February with back-to-back road contests at Kutztown (Feb. 2) and Millersville (Feb. 5), ESU will then welcome Bloomsburg (Feb. 9), Mansfield (Feb. 16) and Shepherd to close out the home slate.
Before heading to the PSAC Tournament, ESU will close out the regular season at Lock Haven (Feb. 23) and West Chester (Feb. 26). The top six seeds of each division will qualify for the tournament, with the PSAC Championship hosted by the top remaining seed in the Western Division.
11 student-athletes return from ESU's 20-9 squad in 2019-20, including leading scorers
Marc Rodriguez (10.0 ppg) and
Troy Jones (9.2 ppg). Jones ranked second on the squad in assists (2.1 apg), while
Carlos Pepin (5.0 rpg) is the leading returning rebounder. The Warriors' balanced offense boasted seven players that averaged between 10-7 points per game.
The NCAA Tournament begins on March 12, as ESU seeks its eighth overall NCAA Tournament berth and its third appearance over the past four possible seasons.
