STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team was back competing indoors for the first time in 684 days on Friday at the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas.
Highlighting the day for the Warriors was the three individual throwers who recorded four PSAC qualifying marks which included, Elizabeth Makar (shot put, weight throw), Madison Horahan (shot put) and Isabella Marte (weight throw).
Field Event Highlights
Making their indoor debuts for ESU, Elizabeth Makar and Madison Horahan each hit qualifying marks in the shot put with throws of 13.49m and 12.12m respectively. Makar's toss shattered the freshman record set by Cheryl Baker in 1979 and was the second best in program history.
The Oxford, Pa. native returned later in the meet to record her second PSAC qualifying throw of the day with a distance of 14.27m in the weight throw. Also recording a qualifying mark in the event was Isabella Marte, who notched a hurl of 14.95m (49-0) which was the fifth-best effort in program history.
Competing for the first time since 2020, Nickolina Annelli finished third in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.05m on her first attempt.
In the triple jump, Kamya Edmonds and Janelle Foston took sixth and seventh place after recording marks of 10.36m and 10.33m respectively.
Running Highlights
In the limited number of running events the Warriors competed in, Jacklyn Spaccaforno stood out after coming in eighth place in 60m hurdles (9.87) and finishing 12th in the 400m (1:05.00).
