WEST CHESTER – Playing in their fourth consecutive five-set match, the East Stroudsburg University volleyball dropped a 3-2 decision to West Chester on Friday night inside Hollinger Field House. The set scores were 25-11, 12-25, 18-25, 25-18, 11-15.
The Warriors fall in their fourth straight match, moving to 12-12 on the season and 6-5 in the PSAC East, while the Golden Rams improve to 19-8 overall and 7-4 in the conference.
With three matches remaining in the regular season, ESU is tied with Kutztown for the fourth seed as the teams split their matches this year.
Notables vs. West Chester
- Junior Sydney Stone led the Warriors with 13 kills while adding nine digs, three assists, two blocks and a pair of aces
- Claire Choloux finished her fourth double-double in the last five matches, totaling 12 kills and 10 digs as well as a trio of aces and blocks a piece
- Freshman Anna Coulter added double figures in kills with 12 while also posting four blocks, three digs, three aces and two assists
- Makaela McComas posted her second straight double-double on 24 assists and 14 digs
- Junior Riley Kallevig recorded 18 digs, the most in her first season wearing the red and black
- West Chester out hit the Warriors by a small percentage of .221 (56 kills, 22 errors) to .213 (54 kills, 18 errors)
- ESU had the advantage in blocks, 15-14, but the Golden Rams recorded more aces, 12-10
How it Happened vs. West Chester
- The Warriors raced out to a 7-2 lead early in the first set before West Chester battled their way back to cut the deficit to two at 9-7. ESU then proceeded to go on a 9-1 run to open up a 18-8 edge which forced the Golden Rams into a timeout. Out of the break, the Warriors closed out the set, 25-11, for a 1-0 lead in the match. The Warriors recorded a .361 hitting percentage on 14 kills and one error.
- West Chester responded in the second set, going out in front 5-2 and 9-4 before the Warriors called a timeout. The Golden Rams kept their foot on the gas out of the stoppage, pushing their lead to 14-5 before ESU scored three straight points. With West Chester leading 16-8, the Golden Rams went on to out score the Warriors, 9-4, to earn a 25-12 second set two victory which evened the match 1-1.
- The Golden Rams carried their momentum over into the third fame, leading 5-2, before the Warriors went on a 4-0 run to go ahead 6-5. The teams traded the next several points, but with West Chester still trailing by one, the Golden Rams ripped off a 7-0 spurt to jump in front 22-16. West Chester would ultimately take a 2-1 lead in the match after finishing off the Warriors, 25-18.
- ESU answered in a big time way to begin the fourth set, leading 13-1 which included scoring seven straight points. The Golden Rams trimmed their deficit to 16-8 and 23-18, but the Warriors closed out West Chester, 25-15, to force a decisive fifth set.
- In the final set, West Chester took an early lead at 5-3 and 10-6 before the Warriors called a timeout. The Golden Rams and ESU traded the next 10 points, which secured a 15-10 win for West Chester and a victory in the match.
