MANHEIM, Pa. – In its first NCAA Women's Coaches' Poll of the regular season, the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced that the East Stroudsburg women's wrestling team is tied with Gannon for 11th place as a team. Individually, ESU's Mia Macaluso (5th, 130) and Sofia Macaluso (6th, 123) were featured as nationally-ranked wrestlers.
ESU holds a 1-2 record through dual meets, with both losses coming against nationally-ranked competition in Elmira and Lock Haven.
#5 Mia Macaluso (5-2) began the season with five consecutive wins, including three at the ESU Invitational before falling to now #2 Montana Delawader (King University) in the first-place match. Macaluso's other loss came against now #4 Lily Sherer at Lock Haven. Overall, Macaluso holds a career record of 17-5 and 8-1 in dual matches. Of her five wins this season, the 2021-22 NCWWC All-American has pinned her opponents twice and earned a tech fall in a pair of wins.
#6 Sofia Macaluso (6-1), a freshman, picked up wins in her first five matches and also advanced to the first-place match at ESU Open, but fell to now #4 Vayle-Rae Baker of King in her first collegiate loss. It came down to a 6-6 tiebreaker against the nationally-ranked foe. Macaluso has two tech fall victories and a pair of pins in six victories this season.
The Warriors head to Michigan for the Albion Invitational this Sunday.
