Volleyball Snaps Losing Streak Against Bloomsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG – In a must-win match, the East Stroudsburg University volleyball team snapped its five-game losing streak by defeating Bloomsburg in four sets on Friday night inside Koehler Fieldhouse. The set scores were 19-25, 25-12, 25-12, 25-21.

The Warriors sweep the season series and move to 8-0 all-time against the Huskies to improve to 13-13 on the season and 7-6 in the PSAC East, while Bloomsburg drops to 5-21 overall and 3-10 in the conference.

With one match remaining in the regular season, ESU and Kutztown are tied for the fourth seed at 7-6, with the Warriors holding the tie breaker according to the conference office.

Prior to tonight's match, the Warriors presented redshirt junior Kaylee LoPresto with the Ann-Gladfelter-McGinnis scholarship, who was an All-America volleyball player at ESU from 1978 to 1981.

Notables vs. Bloomsburg
  • Claire Choloux led the Warriors with 16 kills and nine digs while the junior added three aces and two assists
     
  • Freshman Anna Coulter totaled double digits kills with 15 and had five digs as well as a trio of blocks
     
  • Junior Sydney Stone tallied her second double-double of the season with 11 kills and 15 digs while adding three assists, two aces and a pair of blocks
     
  • LoPresto was just shy of a double-double after totaling nine kills and 17 digs
     
  • After missing the last two match, junior Makayla Baca returned to notch 23 digs
     
  • Taylor Haan posted her second double-double of the year with a career-high 43 assists and 12 digs. The 43 assists are tied for the seventh-most in a four-set match since 2002
     
  • After a slow start to the match, ESU posted a .237 hitting percentage (57 kills, 19 errors), while the Huskies hit .135 (41 kills, 20 errors)
     
  • The Warriors held the advantage in blocks (10-7) and aces (8-4) over Bloomsburg
How it Happened vs. Bloomsburg
  • The Warriors raced out to a 7-3 led in the opening set before Bloomsburg scored eight of the next 11 points to jump in front, 11-10. The teams traded the next several points but with ESU leading 16-15, the Huskies used a 6-1 run to take a 21-17 edge. It was all Bloomsburg the rest of the way as the Huskies outscored ESU, 4-2, to secure a 25-19 set one win.
     
  • With the score knotted at 4-4 to begin the second set, the Warriors went on a 7-2 spurt to pull ahead 11-6. Out of a timeout, ESU dominated the rest of the way as the Warriors outpaced the Huskies, 14-6, to win the second set 25-15 which evened the match at 1-1.
     
  • With ESU up 8-6 in the third set, the Warriors scored 11 of the next 14 points which included five straight to push their lead to push their lead to 19-9. ESU would go on to close out the Huskies in the frame, 25-12, for a 2-1 advantage in the match.
     
  • The Huskies rallied in the fourth set, leading 9-3 with the help of four consecutive attack errors by the Warriors. A timeout helped ESU find their footing as the Warriors proceeded to go on an 8-1 run to take a 11-10 advantage. The teams went back and forth over the next several points as the score was tied on multiple occasions (11-11, 12-12, 14-14, 15-15, 16-16, 17-17) until the Warriors scored three of the next four points to go ahead, 20-18. Bloomsburg would pull within one at 20-19, 21-20 and 22-21, but ESU pulled away at 25-12 to earn the 3-1 victory in the match.
