Baseball Sweeps Saint Anselm on Saturday at Dinwiddie Challenge

DINWIDDIE, VA. –The East Stroudsburg University baseball team was back on the road Saturday, picking up a pair of victories over Saint Anslem at the Dinwiddie Athletic Complex. The Warriors shutout the Hawks 5-0 in the opener before following it up with an 18-4 offensive outburst in game two.

The Warriors move to 3-2 overall on the season while Saint Anselm drops to 0-2 following their season-opener.

Notables (Game One Only)

- Brock Kauffman put the Warriors out in front with a two-RBI single in the bottom of the third

- Tim Haverstick recorded his first home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth

- Brainy Rojas and Ben Piripavel also notched hits for the Warriors

- Chase Nowak (1-1) was dealing in game one, finishing with a career-high 12 strikeouts across 5.0 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit

- Mike Yates collected his first save of the season after firing 2.0 innings and punching out three

How it Happened – Game One

After a scoreless first two innings, a single from Kauffman and a throwing error by Saint Anselm on the same play made the score 3-0 in the bottom of the third. Rojas led off the inning with a double and Peechatka worked a walk to set up Kauffman with two RBI.

The Warriors added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth as Haverstick led off with a solo home run to make the game 4-0. Piripavel followed with a single and advanced all the way to third before Rojas brought him home on a sacrifice fly to give ESU a 5-0 advantage.

How it Happened – Game Two

On their way to sweeping the double header from Saint Anslem, the Warriors defeated the Hawks 18-4 in game two of the twin bill.
