Annelli Sets Program Record on Opening Day of PSAC Championships

EDINBORO – Highlighted by Nickolina Annelli breaking a nine-year-old program record in the pole vault, the East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team sits in seventh place after the opening day of the PSAC Indoor Championships at the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome.

The Warriors accumulated 18 points through six of 17 events, with the host Edinboro sitting in first place at 39 points.

Annelli broke the previous school record of 11-10 set by Laura Beimfohr in 2013 after clearing 3.65m on her first attempt.

Running Highlights

Jeanette Jones was one spot short of qualifying for tomorrow's 400m finals as she took 10th in the prelims but returned to the track by running the fifth fastest time in the 60m hurdles at 9.26.

In the 200m, Ariel Kyle punched her ticket to tomorrow's final after finishing with the fifth fastest time at 25.49.

Field Event Highlights

On her way to breaking the school record in the pole vault, Annelli took fourth after clearing 3.65m and Hannah Frankenfield earned one point in eighth place with a height of 3.35m. Juliana Scharer finished in 10th with a personal-best height of 10-11 3/4. which ranled tied for fifth in program history.

The Warriors started off the day with Elizabeth Makar, Madison Horahan and Isabella Marte taking fourth, fifth and sixth respectively in the weight throw. Makar recorded a mark of 16.05m while Horahan (16.02m) and Marte (15.52m) each notched personal-best throws. The trio now holds the number four, five and six top marks in program history.
