EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University freshman Elizabeth Makar was named the PSAC Women's Field Athlete and Rookie of the Year as the conference announced its indoor track & field major award winners on Friday afternoon.

"To be recognized by our fellow members in the conference for her accomplishments; what a very deserving way to highlight and summarize a historic indoor season., said first-year head coach Cortney Stafford. "Elizabeth is a gem, and I am proud to be a part of her journey."

Makar becomes the third ESU woman to be honored as the PSAC's top indoor field athlete and the first since Christina O'Connor garnered the award back in 2015. Leslie Martin was ESU's first recipient back in 2007.

The Oxford, Pa. native is the third Indoor freshman of the year in program history, joining Lauren Ventrella (2010) and Danielle Smith (2012).

Additionally, Makar is the first athlete in women's program history to garner both honors on the same season.

Makar notched the PSAC's highest finish in a field event at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships by taking ninth place in the shot put with a throw of 14.44m. With the finish, Makar earned second team All-America recognition to become the 17th in ESU women's track and field program history to receive the honors.

Makar concludes one of the most impressive indoor seasons which saw her set the school record in the shot put, the fourth best-mark in the weight throw as well as the freshmen records in both events. She was additionally the runner-up in the shot put at the conference championships and a two-time PSAC Field Athlete of the Week.
