WEST CHESTER – The East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team kicked off the outdoor portion of their schedule on Saturday by earning 10 PSAC qualifying marks and finishing first in seven events at the WCU Quad.
Notching conference qualifying marks were Jacklyn Spaccaforno (100m), Jeanette Jones (400m hurdles) Isabella Marte (discus, hammer), Elizabeth Makar (shot put, hammer), Madison Horahan (shot put, hammer), Olivia Sforza (javelin) and Hannah Frankenfield (pole vault).
The Warriors took first place in the 100m, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, discus, shot put, hammer and javelin.
Makar picked back up right where she left off from indoor season as she also recorded an NCAA Division II Provisional mark in the shot put, while also breaking her own record set during last spring.
Running Highlights
The Warriors recorded the top three finishers in the 100m, as Ariel Kyle lead the way in first with a time of 12.90 followed by Jeanette Jones in second (13.07) and Kamaya Edmonds in third (13.39).
Kyle returned to the track with a runner-up finish in the 200m as she clocked a time of 26.84 while Rhodes took fifth (27.96) and Spaccaforno was right behind in sixth (27.99). Misha Duverger rounded out the finishers for ESU in 11th with a time of 28.32.
Duverger notched a fifth place finish in the 400m after clocking a time 1:05.49 while Jalen Rhodes took eighth (1:09.10).
In the 800m, Kaylene Raczka secured a fourth place finish after crossing the finish line in 2:35.63.
Spaccaforno returned to the track to run the 100m hurdles, taking first place with a PSAC qualifying time of 15.89.
Jones captured the top spot in the 400m hurdles after crossing the finish line in 1:04.48, which was nearly four seconds faster than the conference standards.
Field Event Highlights
Marte took the top spot in the discus with a personal-best throw of 39.43m (129-4), which ranks seventh-best in program history while Makar and Horahan took third and fourth with throws of 35.89m (117-9) and 35.57m (116-8) respectively.
The Warriors finished in the top three spot of the shot put, led by Makar in first with a throw of 14.37m (47-1 ¾), followed with Horahan in second with a mark of 11.98m (39-3 ¾) and Marte in third with a toss of 10.88m (35-8 ½). Zionette Salahuddin finished sixth with a throw of 9.90 (32-5 ¾). Both throws by Makar and Horahan meet the conference qualifying standards.
In the hammer, ESU occupied six of the top 10 finishers with Makar grabbing the top spot after notching a personal-best mark of 48.32m (158-6), which breaks her own freshman record and ranks sixth in program history. Marte was the runner-up with a personal-best throw of 44.86m (147-2) followed by Madison Horahan in fourth (43.68m) and Samiyah Little in sixth (38.99m). Also throwing the hammer was Olivia Sforza (8th, 37.17m) and Macy Rushall (9th, 34.74m).
Sforza returned to the throws are to record a first-place finish in the javelin as she recorded a conference qualyfing mark of 36.72m (120-5).
In the pole vault, Frankenfield paced the Warriors by taking third after clearing the bar at a conference qualifying height of 3.30m (10-10) while Nickolina Annelli took fifth with a mark of 3.15m (10-4).
Kamya Edmonds finished fifth on the long jump as she recorded a leap of 4.87m (15-11 ¾).
