Pepin Crowned PSAC East Athlete of the Year, McAliley Named to All-PSAC East Second Team

3/4/2022 3:04:00 PM

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced on Friday afternoon that redshirt junior forward Carlos Pepin was named the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Year along with earning first team honors. Additionally, Lakeem McAliley was placed on the PSAC East Second Team.

Pepin did it all for the Warriors (19-7), leading ESU in scoring (14.9 ppg), field goal percentage (56.3 percent), rebounding (7.9 rpg) and steals (1.9 steals per game). A consistent scorer, Pepin reached double figures in scoring in 22 of 27 games on the season and posted seven double-double performances. His seven double-doubles are tied with Steve Harris for the sixth most in a single season.

In the PSAC this season, Pepin ranked 19th in scoring, eighth in rebounding, fourth in field goal percentage, fifth in steals per game. Among ESU's eight division foes, the Lodi N.J. native's balanced game ranks sixth in points, fourth in rebounding, second in field goal percentage and second in steals. He reached 20-plus points during five contests, including a monstrous 26-point 21 rebound performance against Kutztown.

With a season of eligibility remaining, Pepin has totaled 647 points and 367 rebounds and 86 steals shooting an efficient 52.9 percent during his career.

Pepin becomes the sixth Warrior to be recognized as PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Year and the third under ESU Head Coach Jeff Wilson, joining Matt Tobin (2015), Whis Grant (2013), Keith Fisher (1991) and Jonathan Roberts (1988-90).

McAliley, just a redshirt-freshman, posted one of the more impressive debuts in recent memory for ESU. Among ESU freshman since 1974-75, the Philadelphia native's 2021-22 season ranks fifth in points (385), fourth in scoring average (14.2), fifth in field goals (152), fourth in field goal percentage (53.4), seventh in free throws made, second in steals and tied for sixth in blocks.

McAliley recorded 19 10-plus scoring contests, including a pair of 29-point outbursts against Molloy and Mansfield. The efficient scorer averaged 14 points in just an average of 18.4 minutes per game.
