Makar Sets Hammer Throw Record at 16th Annual All-American Meet

EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore Elizabeth Makar set the program record in the hammer throw as the East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team hosted the 16th Annual All-American Meet on Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

On her way to a second place finish in the event, Makar unleashed a throw of 51.65m (169-5) which surpassed the previous mark of 167-8, set by Me'Saj Cross in 2019.

In the pole vault, Nickolina Annelli continued to impress as she tied Kirsten Muhaw's program record after clearing the bar at 3.65m (11-11 ¾).

Running Highlights

Jeanette Jones grabbed the top spot in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.19 while Jacklyn Spaccaforno took third after finishing in 15.99.

Competing in her first outdoor meet, Alycia Smith notched a fifth-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase after clocking a time of 13:36.36.

In the 4x100m, the relay squad of Misha Duverger, Ariel Kyle, Kamya Edmonds and Jalen Rhodes finished third with a season-best time of 49.09.

Kaylene Raczka paced the Warriors in 1500m with an 11th place finish after running a personal-best time of 5:12.70 and Abigail Rojas was 25th at 5:41.59.

Duverger returned to the track by taking 15th in the 400m after recording a personal-best time of 1:01.62.

In the 800m, Sarah Guthrie grabbed a sixth place finish after clocking a personal-best time of 2:24.24 and Spaccaforno had a similar finish in the 400m hurdles a 1:10.66.

Jones recorded the Warriors' best finish in the 200m in 10th with a personal-best time of 26.39, followed by Rhodes in 11th at 26.73.

The Warriors took eighth through 10th in the 100m led by Kyle with a time of 12.76, followed by Rhodes (9th – 12.86) and Jones (10th – 12.89).

ESU closed out the day on the track with a runner-up finish in the 4x400m relay after Kyle, Duverger, Guthrie and Jones ran a season-best time of 4:05.95.

Field Event Highlights

In the hammer throw, the Warriors recorded the second, third, fifth and eighth place finishers. Makar led the way as the runner-up with her record breaking performance, followed by Madison Horahan in third with a throw of 48.86m (160-4), which ranks fifth best in program history. Zionette Salahuddin was fifth at 44.34m (145-6) and Olivia Sforza was eighth with a throw of 42.44m (139-3).

Makar was the runner-up in the shot put with a mark of 13.56m (44-6), followed by Horahan in fifth with a throw of 11.81m (38-9) and Isabella Marte in 10th at 10.83m (35-6 1/2).

The Warriors had four top-10 finishes in the discus, paced by a monster throw from Marte in third at 40.29m (132-2), which ranks fourth in school history. Makar was fourth at 36.87m (120-11), while Horahan was sixth (36.21m – 118-9) and Salahuddin took 10th (33.45m – 109-9).

In the javelin, Sforza was third with a throw of 35.91m (117-10) while Salahuddin grabbed ninth with a mark of 29.43m (96-7).

After competing on the track, Edmonds took the top spot in the triple jump and snagged a runner-up finish in the long jump. She notched personal-best marks in each event, which included a 11.32m (37-1 ¾) in the triple, followed by a 5.49m (18-0 ¼) in the long jump, which moves her up to eighth in program history.

On her way to a fourth place finish in the pole vault, Annelli tied the program record while Hannah Frankenfield was fifth after clearing the bar at 3.35m (10-11 ¾)

The Warriors are back on the road next Thursday through Saturday with tune ups at the Penn Relays and Carol & John Covert Classic at Lehigh.
