MILLERSVILLE – Highlighted by three runner-up performances in the 400 meter hurdles, pole vault and the javelin, the East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team closed the 2022 PSAC Outdoor Championships strong with a third place-finish (104.5 points) among 13 teams on Saturday at Millersville's Biemesderfer Stadium.
Running Highlights
- Freshman Brian McGarrity finished 18th in the 1500m, clocking a time of 4:03:51.
- The trio of Ivan Hicks (15.21), Daniel Daley (15.26) and Caleb Carney (15.49) took fourth, seventh and ninth place, respectively in the 110m hurdles, with Hicks winning Heat 1. Hicks tallied ESU five points in the event, with Daley registering two points for his seventh place finish.
- ESU once again had three runners compete in the final of the 400m, as freshman Tyler Boone led the way with a third-place finish (48.12). PSAC Scholar-Athlete Sean Roberts took sixth place (49.77), while Zandrew Bowe posted a time of 50.29 for eighth place.
- Sophomore Caleb Carney posted a runner-up performance in the 400m hurdles (54.41), with teammate Nasir Kyle crossing the finish time in eighth place with a time of 1:00.63. The two Warriors combined to add nine points to ESU's team score.
- In the final event of the weekend, ESU's Luke Valdevit closed the conference meet with a 24th place finish in the 5000m, with the Pleasant Valley High School product crossing the finish line with a time of 15:58.38.
Field Highlights
- Grant Fox picked up PSAC runner-up honors in the pole vault, and added eight points to ESU's score with a mark of 4.55. He topped his previous best of 4.40m, which he set at the 2021 Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg.
- Eric Garner neared his personal-best in the javelin, taking second-place with a mark of 65.33m, just four inches shy of Slippery Rock's Dalton Anderson throw of 65.44m which earned first place. Teammates Zach Nissley (57.26m) and Seth Leonard (56.71m) weren't far behind, nabbing fifth and sixth place finish in the event. Overall, ESU picked up 15 points in the javelin with the three top-six finishers.
- Freshman Ivan Hicks finished eighth in the triple jump, earning a distance of 14.01, which topped his previous personal record of 13.62 set at the Carol and John Covert Classic.
- ESU had three throwers compete in the shot put, with Isaac Almoney leading the charge with a fifth place finish after a throw of 15.72 meters.
