EAST STROUDSBURG – Graduate student pitcher Chase Nowak, redshirt sophomore pitcher Brent Francisco and redshirt senior utility player Anthony Torreullas give East Stroudsburg University baseball three selections on the D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Teams, released on Wednesday.
Nowak and Francisco earned first team honors after previously being named All-PSAC East earlier this month while Torreullas was selected to the second team.
The D2CCA team is nominated and voted on by the Atlantic Region's sports information directors.
Nowak is ESU's first All-Region pitcher since 2017 after picking up first team all-conference last week. The Wilkes-Barre native is a perfect 8-0 this season, pitching to a 1.94 ERA and 83 strikeouts across 79.0 innings of work. Nowak surpassed the 200 strikeout mark in his career, becoming just the sixth pitcher in school history to reach that milestone, while also ranking fourth all-time with 212.
Pitching on three days rest last week, Nowak helped the Warriors stave off elimination in the PSAC Tournament with a victory against Slippery Rock. Nowak fired a complete game shutout back on March 25 and also had a pair of double-digit strikeout efforts with 13 against Saint Anselm and 12 versus Kutztown.
The program's single-season leader for strikeouts (109) kept opposing bats in check to earn first team recognition as Francisco owns a 6-2 record and a 3.07 ERA after firing 82.0 innings. The redshirt sophomore pitched two straight complete game shutouts and had a stretch of 14 consecutive scoreless innings to be named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Week.
After missing most of 2021 with an injury, Torreullas had an impressive bounce back season to earn second team All-Atlantic Region honors. He started 53 of ESU's 54 games, hitting .320 with a .420 on-base percentage and .547 slugging percentage to go with 10 doubles, two triples, nine HR, 51 RBI and 37 runs while going 10-for-12 on stolen bases.
The redshirt senior guided the Warriors to a win versus Gannon in the PSAC Tournament as he finished 4-for-5 with his ninth home run of the season, two doubles, four RBI and four runs scored. The long ball from Torreullas was the 21st of his career which moved him into a tie for second all-time in program history.
The trio becomes the 20th, 21st and 22nd All-Region selections under 15th-year head coach John Kochmansky, who earned his 400th career win this season.
