ALLENDALE, Mich. – Add another accomplishment to Elizabeth Makar's impressive career resume as the sophomore placed 10th in the shot put to earn Second Team All-America status on Saturday at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted at the Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium.

"To summarize this season, I would have to say that I am blessed and grateful. I came off of a solid indoor season, and knew I had to keep up the momentum in order to qualify for outdoor nationals," said Makar. "During the season I had some lows, but with the help of my faith, family, my strength and conditioning coaches, my coaches and my team, I came out on the other side. This season taught me that whatever I put my mind to I can do, and to only control what I can control. I am excited to train over the off season and come back stronger than ever for my next seasons! The job is not done yet!"

"This year was a blur! But, a great ride! Two trips to the National Championships was the icing on the cake," said throws coach Jim Morrison. "Elizabeth is a great athlete and always open to new concepts. Eric joined the team and became an instant part of the program. I will always be grateful for his mature approach to throwing and training. Next year will be another year of growth and surprises for the program. STAY TUNED!!"

"Congratulations to them both on a great year; Elizabeth making it to indoor and outdoor Championships," said first-year head coach Cortney Stafford. "It was an exciting competition to watch. Both represented ESU track and field well.....till next season."

Makar entered the championships seeded 15th in the field of 21, but on her second attempt of the prelims, she tossed the shot put 14.34m (47-0).

The Oxford, Pa. native becomes the 11th multiple All-American in ESU women's track and field program history and the first shot putter to achieve the status.

Makar wraps up the outdoor season that saw her capture the PSAC title in the shot put as well as set the school record with a throw of 14.51m (47-7 ¼). During the indoor season, Makar set the program record in the shot put, the fourth best-mark in the weight throw and the freshmen records in both events. She was additionally the runner-up in the shot put at the conference championships. Makar was also a three-time PSAC Field Athlete of the Week during both seasons.
