#19/22 Warriors Register Fifth Consecutive Victory with 91-73 Win against Bloomsburg

ESU Head Coach Jeff Wilson now ranks fifth all-time in career victories in the PSAC with 371

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Leading 67-61 with 9:20 left in the second half, the #19/22 East Stroudsburg University men's basketball closed the game with a 24-12 run to defeat Bloomsburg, 91-73, on Wednesday evening inside Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors (13-1, 7-1 PSAC) pick up their fifth consecutive victory, while the Huskies (0-12, 0-8 PSAC) remain winless.

With the victory, ESU head coach Jeff Wilson moves to fifth all-time in the PSA with 371 career wins, passing Dick Delaney (West Chester, 1987-2008).
 

Notables

  • Lakeem McAliley led the Warriors with 22 points, making 8-of-12 of his field goal attempts. He added four rebounds, distributed two assists and also tallied a block.
  • Carlos Pepin, who was named the D2CIDA National Player of the Week on Tuesday, posted his sixth consecutive double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while shooting an efficient 6-of-8 from the floor. He also distributed four assists. 
  • Justin Paz recorded 15 points, including three 3-pointers. The Bethlehem Catholic product moves to 10th all-time at ESU in 3-pointers made (123), joining teammate Marc Rodriguez, who ranks fifth in the category. Paz added three assists and three steals in 24 minutes of action.
  • Jaelen McGlone also reached double-figures with 10 points. He stiffed the stat sheet with four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
  • Mike Ramos led the game with five assists, and brought down five rebounds, while adding five points. Mike Millsip totaled seven points and three rebounds.
  • The Warriors led in rebounds (42-28), assists (22-14), bench points (21-9), fastbreak points (27-12) and points in the paint (48-18).
  • With the win and Lock Haven's 76-64 loss to Mansfield, ESU moves to sole possession of first place in the PSAC East.



How it Happened

  • The Warriors and Huskies battled tough throughout the contest, as ESU doubled up BU 24-12 near the halfway mark of the first half. An 8-1 Husky sprint sliced the deficit to 25-20, but ESU countered with nine unanswered points to retake a double-digit lead.
  • Bloomsburg sliced the deficit down to six with two minutes remaining in the first half, as BU kept in the contest by making jumpers. The Warriors registered six of the final eight points in the contest to take a nine-point lead into the locker room at 47-38. McAliley paced ESU with 14 of his 22 points in the opening 20 minutes of play.
  • The Huskies started the second half strong, with a quick 7-3 run to cut the Warrior lead down to five at 50-45. ESU would never let BU hold a lead, as the Warriors were able to get a 3-pointer from Ramos, a dunk from Pepin and a McGlone layup to increase the advantage to 57-46.
  • In the final 10 minutes, Bloomsburg got as close as six points at 67-61 following a 3-pointer at the 9:20 mark, but ESU closed the contest with a 24-12 win to keep its winning streak intact for the final score of 91-73.
