STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team commenced its indoor campaign on Friday with nine PSAC qualifying times or marks as well as one NCAA provisional mark at the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Recording PSAC automatic qualifying marks for the Warriors was Jeanette Jones (60mH), Destiny Thompson (60m, 200m), Nickolina Annelli (pole vault), Kamya Edmonds (long jump), Elizabeth Makar (shot put, weight throw), Isabella Marte (weight throw) and Samiyah Little (weight throw).
Makar, who is a two-time All-American in the shot put, notched an NCAA provisional mark in the event on her fourth attempt of the season.
Running Highlights
Jones wasted no time in her final indoor season as the graduate student posted a third place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.12. Jones' mark is a PSAC qualifier and fastest in the conference.
Making her ESU debut, Thompson made an immediate impact as the graduate student earned a runner-up finish in the 60m dash with a time of 7.77. Thompson's performance is the sixth fastest time in program history as well as a conference qualifier.
Returning to run the 200m, Thompson claimed the top spot with the eighth quickest time in school history at 25.61, while Kayla Horning (26.64) took seventh followed by Ariel Kyle (26.67) in eighth.
In the 4x200m, the combination of Thompson, Kayla Horning, Lauren Reed and Edmonds posted a time of 1:46.63 on their way to a third place finish.
Jones returned to the track for the 500m, grabbing the top spot with a time of 1:19.08, which ranks fifth quickest in school history.
Field Event Highlights
The pole vault kicked off the day for the Warriors in the field events as Annelli tied for second after clearing the bar at a PSAC qualifying height of 3.35m (11-0), while Hannah Frankenfield took fifth with a mark of 3.05m (10-0).
Makar picked up right where she left off as the Oxford native claimed the top spot in the shot put with a PSAC qualifying and NCAA provisional mark of 13.85m (45-5 ¼). Marte also recorded a top-10 finish in eighth with a throw of 11.69m (38-4 ¼).
The Warriors had four top-seven finishes in the weight throw and three PSAC qualifying marks as the Makar led the way in fourth with a toss of 15.48m (50-9), followed by Marte in sixth after recording a 14.45m (47-5) on her first attempt. Little was next in sixth at 14.29m (46-11), while Zionette Salahuddin rounded out the finishes in seventh with a mark of 13.99m (45-11).
In the long jump, Edmonds recorded a sixth place finish after leaping a personal-best and PSAC qualifying mark of 5.33m (17-5 ¾).
