LEWISBURG – Junior
Heather Gaughran (pole vault) became the 11th different East Stroudsburg University women's track and field student-athlete to record a PSAC automatic qualifying mark as the Warriors competed on day one of the Bison Open and Multi, hosted by Bucknell on Friday night at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Pentathlon Highlights
Making her ESU debut,
Elyssa Pemu earned a fifth place finish in the pentathlon (Blue) after accumulating 2434 points.
Pemu opened the evening with a sixth place finish in the 60m hurdles after crossing the line in 10.86.
In the high jump, Pemu grabbed her second consecutive sixth place finish as the junior cleared the bar at 1.40m (4-7).
Pemu was impressive in the shot put as she recorded a fourth place finish after recording a throw of 8.97m (29-5 ¼) on her third attempt.
In the long jump, Pemu came in fifth after notching a leap of 4.49m (14-8 ¾) on her second attempt.
Pemu closed out the pentathlon by taking fourth place in the 800m with a time of 2:49.01.
Running Highlights
In the ESU's lone event on the track,
Destiny Thompson paced the Warriors with a sixth place finish in the 200m as the graduate student clocked a time of 25.81.
Field Event Highlights
The Warriors recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in the shot put as two-time All-American
Elizabeth Makar took fourth with a throw of 12.84m (42-1 ½) and
Isabella Marte was eighth after recording a mark of 11.59m (38-0 ¼).
In the pole vault,
Nickolina Annelli led the way for the Warriors in fifth after recording a height of 3.51m (11-6 ¼), while Gaughran notched a PSAC automatic qualifying mark in her ESU debut as she cleared the bar at 3.21m (10-6 ¼) in a tie for 10th.
Hannah Frankenfield rounded out the finishes in 13th with a mark of 3.06m (10-0 ½).
