EAST STROUDSBURG – Adding to her impressive resume, freshman Bri Hennett was one of 24 student-athletes to earn an at-large bid to the 2023 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18 in Joplin, Missouri.
Hennett is the first East Stroudsburg University women's cross country freshman to qualify as an individual in program history as well as the first runner to compete at the NCAA Championships since Allison Decker earned an at-large berth in 2015.
The championships will take place at 11 a.m. at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course, hosted by Missouri Southern State University. Hennett will be one of two true freshman scheduled to compete.
In her first year for the Warriors, Hennett earned the rights as one of the top runners in the Atlantic Region after recording a seventh place finish at the regional meet last Saturday. The Northumberland native was the only freshman to finish in the top-10 and became the first Warrior to earn All-Region honors since Kaylyn West in 2017. Additionally, she recorded the highest finish by a freshman in school history, surpassing 13th place finishes from Georgianna Messinger (1984) and Tina Vosper (1995).
A two-time PSAC Athlete of the Week, Hennett garnered First Team All-PSAC honors after leading the Warriors with a fifth place finish over at the conference championships on October 21. Hennett produced the highest finish by a first-year student in program history as the previous best was Tina Vosper taking seventh at the 1995 PSAC Championships.
