LEWISBURG – Behind seven top-eight finishes on the final day of the 2023 PSAC Indoor Championships, the East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team took fifth in the team standings on Sunday inside Gerhard Fieldhouse.
The Warriors recorded their highest finish and most points (58) at the conference championships since 2019.
Highlighting the day for ESU was two-time All-American Elizabeth Makar as the sophomore was the runner-up in the shot put for the second consecutive season.
Also posting top-eight finishes for the Warriors was Jeanette Jones (4th – 60m hurdles, 5th – 400m), Destiny Thompson (4th – 200m, 5th – 60m), the 4x400m relay team (3rd) and Kamya Edmonds (5th – Triple Jump) in their respective events.
Running Highlights
In the 60m hurdles, Jones captured a fourth place finish after clocking a personal-best time of 8.99. The Middlesex, N.J. native was back on the track just one event later, taking fifth in the 400m after crossing the line in 59.17.
One day after setting the program record in the 60m, Thompson earned a fifth place finish in the event with a time of 7.61. Thompson totaled five more points for the Warriors after posting a personal-best time of 25.10 in the 200m to take fourth.
The Warriors notched a bronze medal in the 4x400m as the combination of Ariel Kyle, Jones, Kayla Horning and Thompson posted a time of 4:00.72.
Field Event Highlights
Makar saved her best performance in the shot put until the championships as the Oxford native recorded a season-best mark of 13.85m (45-5 ¼) on her way to a second place finish.
Edmonds delivered a big time performance in the triple jump, recording a personal-best mark of 11.46m (37-7 1/4) to take fifth place. The Reading native's performance ranks second all-time in program history.
