EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team recorded a strong performance at the 17th Annual All-American Meet, winning 10 events on Friday afternoon at Gregory-Douds Field at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
For the second time in three weeks, two-time All-American Elizabeth Makar broke her own school record in the hammer throw, taking first place in the event with a NCAA provisional mark of 52.59m (172-6).
Adding PSAC automatic qualifying marks and times for the Warriors was Jeanette Jones (200m, 400m) and Isabella Marte (hammer throw, discus).
ESU took first place in the 100m, 200m, 400m, hammer throw, long jump, pole vault, triple jump, shot put, discus and javelin.
Throughout today's meet, the Warriors honored seniors Samantha Brawner, Hannah Frankenfield, Jeanette Jones, Isabella Marte, Ariel Kyle and Zionette Salahuddin.
Running Highlights
Jones captured a first place in the 400m after clocking a conference, personal-best and ninth fastest time in school history at 57.92.
The Warriors went one-two-three in the 100m dash as Destiny Thompson secured a first place finish with a time of 12.38, followed by Jones (12.78) in second and Kamya Edmonds (13.02) in third place.
Thompson returned to the track for the 200m, recording her second first place finish of the afternoon after crossing the line in 25.38. The busy day continued for Jones as the graduate student posted another PSAC qualifying time at 25.62 on her way to earning a runner-up finish.
In the 100m hurdles, Elyssa Pemu clocked a time of 17.60 to take third place.
Sophomore Carolina Kaczmarek posted a fourth place finish in the 800m after clocking a time of 2:37.22.
In the 5000m, freshman Megan Elgrim took fourth with a personal-best time of 19:46.35 and Brawner (22:27.94) finished seventh in the final home meet of her career.
Field Highlights
ESU got the field events underway in the long jump with Edmonds capturing a first place finish with a mark of 5.29m (17-4 ¼). Edmonds was back in the sand pit, securing the top spot in the triple jump with a leap of 10.86m (35-7 ¾) on her second attempt.
Along with Makar's effort in the hammer throw, Marte finished as the runner-up with a PSAC automatic qualifying, personal-best and fourth longest mark in school history at 49.83m (163-6). Sophomore Samiyah Little took third place with a personal-best and fifth furthest throw in program history at 49.58m (162-8). Taking fourth and fifth place respectively for ESU was Salahuddin (44.45m – 145-10) and Olivia Sforza (41.30m – 135-6).
Makar returned to dominate the shot put as the junior took first place with a All-American Meet record throw of 14.05m (46-1 ¼) on her second attempt. Salahuddin finished as the runner-up with a mark of 10.41m (34-2) and Marte was fourth at 10.16m (33-4).
In the pole vault, ESU finished one-two-three as Nickolina Annelli took first place with a height of 3.55m (11-7 ¾). Heather Gaughran was the runner-up at 3.40m (11-1 ¾) and Frankenfield took third after clearing 3.10m (10-2).
Salahuddin was back in the throws area, finishing first place in the discus with a throw of 38.87m (127-6) and Marte was the runner-up after notching a PSAC automatic qualifying mark of 38.25m (125-6).
In the javelin, Sforza took the top spot with a mark of 39.92m (129-0), while Salahuddin took third place at 30.84m (101-2).
After competing on the track, Pemu turned her attention to the high jump where the junior took third at 1.47m (4-9 ¾).
