SLIPPERY ROCK – On her way to a second place finish in the hammer throw, junior Elizabeth Makar smashed her own school record for the third time this season as the East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team opened competition at the 2023 PSAC Outdoor Championships on Thursday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Earning a runner-up finish for the second consecutive season at the outdoor championships, Makar extended her program record and NCAA provisional mark by over eight feet with a toss of 55.11m (180-8) on her final attempt.
In the team standings, ESU is tied with Edinboro in second place with 18 points and trails Millersville by two as the defending champion Marauders totaled 20.
Heptathlon Highlights
Representing the Warriors in the heptathlon, Elyssa Pemu sits in 13th place after accumulating 2417 points through the first four events.
Pemu got the championships underway by taking 12th in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best time of 16.70.
The junior returned for the high jump where she recorded a fourth place finish after eclipsing the bar at a season-best height of 1.55m (5-1).
Continuing with the field events, Pemu posted a 10th place finish in the shot put after matching her season-best mark with a throw of 8.99m (29-6).
Pemu closed out the first half of the heptathlon in the 200m with a 12th place finish after clocking a personal-best time of 27.83.
Field Highlights
Along with a monster performance by Makar in the hammer throw, Samiyah Little put together a career day to take third as the sophomore notched a personal-best and second furthest mark in school history at 51.20m (168-0). Isabella Marte rounded out the finishes for the Warriors in fifth place as she recorded a toss of 49.50m (162-5) on her first throw.
