Jones Impresses on Day Two of PSAC Outdoor Championships

SLIPPERY ROCK – Graduate student Jeanette Jones recorded an impressive afternoon to lead the East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team on day two of the 2023 PSAC Outdoor Championships on Friday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Warriors dropped to sixth place in the team standings with 24 points but are within striking distance of the other five teams as Slippery Rock leads the way with 48.5. Followed by Millersville (2nd – 40), Edinboro (3rd – 34), Shippensburg (4th – 33) and Kutztown (5th – 27).

Heptathlon Highlights

Concluding the final three events of the heptathlon, junior Elyssa Pemu took ninth overall after accumulating a personal-best 3,901 points.

Opening the day in the sandpit with the long jump, Pemu posted a 10th place finish after recording a season-best leap of 4.70m (15-5).

In the javelin, Pemu launched a personal-best throw of 25.19m (82-7) to take 10th.

Closing out the heptathlon with the 800, Pemu crossed the line in a personal-best time of 2:36.07 to come in eighth place.

Track Highlights

On her way to finishing third in the 100m hurdles prelims, Jones clocked a personal-best and third fastest time in school history at 14.51. Jones will run in the finals tomorrow at 1:25 p.m.

Returning to the track for the 400m hurdles, Jones clocked another personal-best and quickest time in the prelims after crossing the line in 1:01.68. Additionally, the Middlesex, N.J. native lowered her NCAA provisional mark in the event and remained as third all-time in the record books.

Destiny Thompson punched her ticket to the finals in the 200m after recording a personal-best and sixth-fastest time in the preliminary at 25.00. Thompson's effort ranks fourth all-time in program history.

Field Highlights

In the long jump, Kamya Edmonds notched a sixth place finish after the junior recorded a leap of 5.36m (17-7) on her first attempt.

Isabella Marte recorded three points for the Warriors in the discus after she posted a season-best mark of 40.04m (131-4) on her third throw.
