Jones Wins 400m Hurdles, Annelli Sets Pole Vault School Record to Conclude PSAC Outdoor Championships

SLIPPERY ROCK – Jeanette Jones captured a first place finish in the 400m hurdles and Nickolina Annelli broke the program record in the pole vault as the East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team wrapped up the 2023 PSAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Warriors were fifth in the team standings with 72 points, marking their best performance at the outdoor championships since 2019.

Jones captured the fourth 400m hurdles title in program history and became the first Warrior to win the event since Colleen Goble in 1995.  

Annelli surpassed her own school record in the pole vault after clearing the bar at a height of 3.71m (12-2) on her final attempt. The Lansdale native finished fourth in the event.

Track Highlights

Jones got her career day underway with the 100m hurdles as the graduate student finished as the runner-up with a personal-best and second quickest time in program history at 14.34.

En route to a first place finish in the 400m hurdles, Jones clocked the second fastest time in school history at 1:01.30 while also lowering her NCAA provisional mark in the event. The Middlesex, N.J. native currently ranks first in the Atlantic Region and 29th in NCAA Division II with her time.

Destiny Thompson recorded an impressive fifth place finish in the 200m as she clocked a personal-best and third fastest time in ESU record books at 24.71.

Field Highlights

Olivia Sforza saved her best for last in the javelin as the junior took third place after launching a NCAA provisional and season-best mark on her final attempt at 42.37m (139-0). The Lebanon native now ranks fourth in the Atlantic Region and 31st in NCAA Division II.

In the triple jump, Kamya Edmonds earned a runner-up finish after notching a personal-best and third furthest mark in school history at 11.71m (38-5).

Closing out the field events with the shot put, Elizabeth Makar recorded a third place finish with a toss of 14.00m (45-11 ¼) on her last attempt. The Oxford native has now finished in the top-three in a trio of appearances at the championships.

Up Next

If selected, the Warriors who have recorded NCAA provisional marks or times in their respective events will head to Pueblo, Colorado for the Outdoor Championships on May 25-27.
