EAST STROUDSBURG – After receiving all-district honors, the College Sports Communicators unveiled on Wednesday that junior Elizabeth Makar has become the fifth East Stroudsburg University women's track and field student-athlete in program history to receive Academic All-America recognition.
Makar was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Third Team and posted a 3.99 GPA while pursuing her bachelor's degree in athletic training.
Makar became the ninth Academic All-America selection overall in program history, joining Carley Gregas (2019 – 3rd Team), Christina O'Connor (2015 – 1st Team | 2014 – 2nd Team), Corinne Fitzgerald (2013 – 1st Team | 2012 – 2nd Team) and Rose Mascoli (2013 – 1st Team | 2012 – 1st Team, 2011 – 3rd Team).
The Oxford native adds another accolade to her impressive resume as the junior is a two-time Second Team All-American in the shot put, the 2022 PSAC outdoor champion in the shot put and the 2021-22 PSAC Indoor Field Athlete & Rookie of the Year. Makar currently holds the program records for the shot put, both indoor and outdoor, as well as the hammer throw mark.
This season, Makar finished as the runner-up in the shot put and weight throw at the indoor championships while taking second in the hammer as well as third in the shot put at the outdoor championships.
