STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University baseball team held its annual pro day on Wednesday afternoon at Creekview Park.
The Warriors conducted workouts for nine hitters and seven pitchers in front of 16 MLB scouts under the direction of 17th-year head coach John Kochmansky, who led ESU to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time in program history.
Hitters: Mike Kelly (Limerick, Pa. / Pope John Paul II), Jeremy Piatkiewicz (Fogelsville, Pa. / Parkland), Jack Rothenhausler (Bethlehem, Pa. / Liberty), Parker Frey (Bethlehem Pa. / Liberty), Matt Ervolina (Breinigsville, Pa. / Parkland), Chaise Albus (Bethlehem, Pa. / Bethlehem Catholic), Tim Haverstick (Marlton, N.J. / Cherokee), Shanley Wall (Souderton, Pa. / Souderton) and Connor Reilly (Oxford, Pa. / Oxford)
Pitchers: Ryan Dewees (Lincoln University, Pa. / Oxford), Gavin Sopko (Cresco, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East), Justin Johnson (Easton, Pa. / Easton), Nick McAuliffe (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg), Brent Francisco (Burlington Township / Burlington Township), Jaden Newton (Riegelsville, Pa. / Palisades) and Johansel Brito (Hazelton, Pa. / Hazelton).
"This is an excellent start for our younger guys to get some exposure and for our older guys to solidify themselves with an opportunity for the draft," said Kochmansky
On July 10, All-PSAC East right-handed pitcher Tom Resinger was selected in the 10th round (pick 286) of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft by the Oakland Athletics. He became the eighth ESU player taken in the MLB draft and seventh under Kochmansky.
In the 2016 MLB Draft, right-handed pitcher Matt Festa (7th round, Seattle) and outfielder Robert Bennie (24th round, Oakland) were both selected, becoming the first ESU teammates to be drafted in the same year. Other MLB draftees include Chris Knott (34th round, Tampa Bay) in 2014, Joe Bennie (28th round, Oakland) in 2013, Jeremy Gigliotti (19th round, San Diego) in 2011, Mark Angelo (44th round, Seattle) in 2009 and Joel Bennett (21st round, Boston) in 1991.
