Reilly’s Late Game Heroics Help ESU Win Both At Shepherd

4/23/2026 9:55:00 PM

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The ESU baseball team left Shepherd with two wins after a dominant 8-2 victory to start the day, followed by extra-innings heroics from Connor Reilly to give the Warriors a 6-5 win to close out the doubleheader. ESU improves to 30-12 on the season, winning its 13th consecutive game and remaining tied for first place in the PSAC East.

BATTING NOTABLES
  • The batting in game one was an all-around team effort for the Warriors with eight different players recording a hit. Troy Davis, Walker Zampella, and Parker Frey each earned two hits to lead the team.
  • Easton Albert was the only player to hit a home run on the day, marking his first of the season.
  • Connor Reilly earned three hits and a run across both games with his lone RBI coming off a double in the top of the eighth, bringing in game two's winning run.

PITCHING NOTABLES
  • Earning the win in game one was Ryan Dewees. He pitched 4.2 innings, allowing just two runs and a walk. The performance elevates the senior to 6-2, tying him with Evan Hughes for most wins on the season.
  • Cole Dymek rounded out game one, pitching 2.1 innings. In that time, he notched a career-best five strikeouts while only giving up one hit with no walks.
  • Johansel Brito picked up the win in game two, closing out the final two innings of the game, his longest pitching stint of the season. The junior recorded two strikeouts, tying his season-best performances from his last two appearances against Queens and Shippensburg.

GAME ONE
  • The Warriors kicked off the game hot, getting their first three batters on base, Davis being the one to make it home off a Zampella single. Shepherd was unable to answer until the bottom of the third when Bodie Pullen was brought in to tie the game.
  • In the fourth, ESU took advantage of walk opportunities, having two get on base from them. With bases loaded, a Cole Serfass single allowed Zander Condeelis to get home while the next play saw Frey put up a sacrifice fly to bring in Davis.
  • The Warriors kept up the strong play on both sides as a double play followed by a strikeout prevented any offense from Shepherd. ESU continued to extend its lead in the fifth off an Albert solo homerun.
  • The Rams seemed to have mounted an offense again in the bottom of the fifth as Evan Rosario doubled on the first pitch of the inning from Dewees. Rosario advanced a base on each of the two next plays, coming in for Shepherd's second run of the game. After giving up another double, East Stroudsburg made the decision to substitute Dymek for Dewees, leading to a foul out to end the inning.
  • With the Rams looking to make it a game, they earned two quick outs with a Frey bunt getting him on first in between. Connor Reilly got on base via a walk, prompting Shepherd to change pitchers which started a rally for the Warriors. A walk allowed Albert to reach first, loading the bases and staying that way after a Condeelis walk that scored Frey. A Braydon Hubbard hit deep into left field gave the chance for both Albert and Reilly to reach home. ESU wasn't done there though, as Davis' hit to left field brought Condeelis home from second, scoring the fourth run of the inning and pushing the lead to six.
  • Dymek kept the momentum for the Warriors, striking out the bottom of the sixth. Meanwhile, Shepherd was going through the pitching rotation, changing for the top of seventh before two straight walks made cause for another change. Unfortunately, a double play thwarted ESU's efforts to maintain the same level of offense from the last inning and had them going into the field after a pop fly. A strikeout and fly ball allowed Dymek to close his strong relief performance with another strikeout looking, wrapping an 8-2 victory for the Warriors.

GAME TWO
  • Shepherd started out much better than the first game, striking out the first two batters before Zampella's single. An error allowed Serfass to reach first and advance Zampella to third before Frey grounded out to end the inning. While Ethan Woods got a strikeout on the Rams' first batter, their offense got them to an early lead as they loaded the bases, allowing Ethan Burgreen to score off a wild pitch.
  • Reilly was the first to get on base for ESU, advancing to second on an error. Christian Maccarrone was walked to put runners on first and second, but Condeelis' at bat led to a fielder's choice that got out Reilly at third, leading to a throwing error, allowing Maccarrone to reach second. However, the Warriors were unable to take advantage of the errors as a fly out ended the inning.
  • Shepherd's offense continued, as they loaded the bases with just one out. An error by Woods let Andrew O'Brien come home for a score while a wild pitch also brought in Braylon Conner for the Rams, extending their lead to three.
  • Despite recording two hits, a strikeout ended the inning with three left stranded on base for ESU. The Warriors made up for it defensively, ending the bottom of the third with just three at-bats.
  • In the top of the fourth, East Stroudsburg found its stride on the offensive side of the field. Condeelis reached on an error, being pinch ran for by Gabe Gillespie, and Hubbard singling put two runners on. While Hubbard was out on a fielder's choice, the Warriors had runners in the corners. A passed ball brought in Gillespie and advanced Davis to second. A throwing error allowed Zampella to reach first, advancing Davis to third which gave him the opportunity to score off Serfass' single to right field as Zampella replaced his spot at third. A single to center field from Frey drove in Zampella and put runners on first and second. Back-to-back wild pitches brought in Serfass to give ESU the one run lead.
  • Shepherd tried to respond, putting three runners on base through walks, two from Woods who was substituted for Caden Leonard, but they were all left stranded after a fielder's-choice out.
  • ESU held onto its lead until the bottom of the sixth until Pullen ran in the tying run, followed by Fluharty reaching home on a passed ball giving Shepherd a 5-4 lead. The Warriors answered in the top of the seventh with three straight singles that scored Gillespie for the score that sent the game into extra innings.
  • In the eighth, Albert was the first Warrior to get on base after two fly outs. His at-bat was followed by Reilly, whose double brought in Albert for the game-winning score as a strong defense held off any chance the Rams had of stretching the game further.
