Warriors Take Down Huskies in Four Sets

EAST STROUDSBURG – After dropping back-to-back matches, the East Stroudsburg University volleyball team responded with a strong 3-1 victory (25-12, 25-16, 18-25, 25-16) over Bloomsburg on Friday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors (11-4, 2-2 PSAC East) evened their conference record, while the Huskies (5-11, 3-1 PSAC East) suffered their first PSAC East loss.

Notables

  • Anna Coulter delivered an impressive performance, leading ESU with 18 kills on 33 attempts (.545) without committing an attack error. She added eight total blocks and contributed three service aces.
  • Allison Birtcil (12 kills, 10 digs), Kelly Crites (10 kills, 10 digs), and Taylor Haan (40 assists, 10 digs) all posted double-doubles. Haan also added four blocks.
  • Leonor Chambel posted a career-high 29 digs in the match to lead the Warriors. Hanna Garrison also recorded double-figure digs (13). Chambel, a graduate student from Portugal, has now registered 20-plus digs in five matches this season.

How It Happened

  • Set 1 (25-12): Tied 3-3 early in the opening set, the Warriors took control with a 13-3 run to grab a 16-6 advantage. After three consecutive points by the Huskies, ESU extended its lead to 21-9 with a 6-0 surge. The Warriors closed the set with four of the final seven points to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Set 2 (25-16): The Warriors built an early lead and took a commanding 19-11 advantage late in the set. The Huskies responded with five straight points to close the gap to 19-16, but the Warriors finished strong, winning the final six points to take a 2-0 edge.
  • Set 3 (18-25): Bloomsburg started strong in the third set, building an 11-6 lead. ESU fought back to within a point at 15-14, but the Huskies closed the set on a 10-4 run to stay alive.
  • Set 4 (25-16): A tight battle early, Bloomsburg held a 10-9 lead before ESU seized momentum, scoring 15 of the final 20 points. Coulter contributed five of her 18 kills during the pivotal stretch to secure the win.
