EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team recorded its seventh sweep in 12 victories this season, defeating Lock Haven 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-14) on Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.
The Warriors (12-4, 3-2 PSAC East) secured their second victory in two days at home, finishing their eight-match homestand with a 6-2 record. The Bald Eagles (4-9, 1-4 PSAC East) fell after winning a five-set thriller at Kutztown on Friday.
Notables
- Anna Coulter led the Warriors with 12 kills, a .400 hitting percentage, four total blocks, and three aces. Kelly Crites contributed 10 kills with a .276 hitting percentage, and Allison Birtcil added seven kills.
- Taylor Haan recorded 31 assists, distributing more than 10 assists per set for the 11th time this season and the sixth consecutive match. Haan also tallied seven aces and six digs. She now has 1,771 career assists, ranking eighth all-time in program history. Haan aims to become the seventh player in program history to surpass 2,000 career assists.
- Leonor Chambel (9) and Makaela McComas (8) were close to double-digit digs.
How It Happened
- Set 1 (25-22): Lock Haven started strong, taking a 5-1 lead. The Warriors quickly tied the match at 5-5, and the teams traded points until it was knotted at 16-16. ESU then took control with five consecutive points, including a Coulter kill and three LHU attack errors. Leading 24-19, the Warriors saw the Bald Eagles rally with four straight points, but a service error sealed the set for ESU.
- Set 2 (25-22): The second set was another close contest. With ESU holding a 17-16 lead, the Warriors went on a 6-1 run to extend the advantage to 23-17. Lock Haven responded with a 5-1 spurt to make it 24-22, but Coulter closed out the set with a kill to give the Warriors a 2-0 edge.
- Set 3 (25-14): Holding a narrow 6-4 lead early, the Warriors surged to a 13-4 advantage. ESU extended its lead to 20-9 before Lock Haven cut the margin to 20-13 with a 5-1 stretch. However, ESU finished strong, winning five of the final six points to secure the set, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.
