Warriors Throttle West Chester, Post Best Hitting Percentage Since 2010

ESU posted a .484 hitting percentage (42 kills, two errors, 91 attempts), its best mark since Nov. 6, 2010, when the Warriors hit .490 against Cheyney.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Fueled by its most efficient offensive performance in 14 years, the East Stroudsburg University volleyball team extended its winning streak to three with a sweep of West Chester (25-18, 25-6, 25-14) on Friday night at Hollinger Fieldhouse.

The Warriors (13-4, 4-2 PSAC East) now shift their focus to Millersville for a Saturday afternoon matchup. The Golden Rams (8-10, 1-5 PSAC East) dropped their fourth consecutive match.

Notables

  • ESU recorded a .484 hitting percentage (42 kills, two errors, 91 attempts), its best mark since Nov. 6, 2010, when the Warriors posted a .490 hitting percentage against Cheyney.
  • The trio of Kelly Crites (14 kills, .500), Anna Coulter (12 kills, .632), and Hanna Garrison (10 kills, .625) accounted for 36 of the Warriors' 46 kills with just one combined attack error. Crites also registered a double-double with 14 digs. Coulter added three service aces, two blocks, and four digs.
  • Taylor Haan recorded 40 assists, the second most by a Warrior in a three-set match since 2002. Haan also contributed five digs. Her 40 assists are the most since she dished out 43 in a sweep of Bloomsburg last season.
  • Leonor Chambel posted a career-high 15 digs in a three-set match.

How It Happened

Set 1 (25-18)
The opening set was the most competitive of the match. The Warriors built an early 7-3 lead and maintained at least a four-point cushion throughout. Holding a 21-14 lead, ESU took the set 25-18 after a 4-4 exchange, sealing it with a WCU service error on set point. ESU connected on over 57 percent of its attacks in the set.

Set 2 (25-6)
ESU dominated the second set, opening with a 3-0 lead before WCU tallied its first point. From that point, the Warriors went on an incredible 22-5 run, winning 10 of the final 11 points to secure a 2-0 advantage. ESU entered the third set without committing a single attack error.

Set 3 (25-14)
With the set tied at 4-4, the Warriors seized control with six straight points for an 11-4 lead. WCU managed to cut the deficit to three on two occasions, but ESU kept the Golden Rams at bay. Leading 20-13, the Warriors closed the match by winning six of the final seven points, taking the set 25-14 to complete the sweep.
