LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – After another strong effort on both ends of the floor, East Stroudsburg University men's basketball senior guard Cam Young has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second straight week.
Young led East Stroudsburg University in a 1-1 stretch against Seton Hill and Slippery Rock, averaging 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 3.5 steals and one block. He shot 52.4 percent from the field, 50 percent from 3-point range and went 6-of-9 from the free-throw line during the two-game span.
The Swedesboro, N.J., native tallied 13 points, six rebounds and two steals in an 80-72 road win at Seton Hill. He followed that effort with a game-high 18 points, five rebounds, five steals and two blocks in a narrow 83-81 overtime loss to Slippery Rock.
With five steals against Slippery Rock, Young now leads the PSAC in steals at 3.25 per game, which ranks sixth among NCAA Division II players. Among 290 Division II teams, only four players have recorded more than Young's 39 steals this season.
The Warriors have now earned weekly recognition from the PSAC in four of the first six weeks of the season, with Lakeem McAliley receiving both PSAC East Athlete and Defensive Athlete of the Week honors, while Young has collected back-to-back defensive awards.
Young and the Warriors return to action Monday, Jan. 6, when ESU hosts Shepherd in the PSAC East opener at Koehler Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The contest will stream on the PSAC Sports Digital Network and air regionally on Blue Ridge TV 13.
