EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team dominated the 24th Annual DeSchriver Invitational as the Warriors won nine events, including all six in the field, on Sunday inside Koehler Fieldhouse and the Zimbar Gymnasium.
Capturing first-place finishes in their respective events for ESU was Miguel Charlery (55m), Renaco Limberg (400m), the 4x400m relay team, Chris Costa (pole vault), Jack Gorham (long jump, triple jump), Cole Gorham (shot put), Anthony Voto (weight throw), and Jaden Johnson (high jump).
Along with his pair of titles (Jack) Gorham posted an NCAA provisional mark in the long jump, becoming the fourth Warrior this season to do so, as the junior leaped 7.18m (23-6 ¾).
The Warriors added a trio of additional PSAC automatic qualifying marks and times including Ryan Ditty in the 400m, Bryson Gilchrist in the triple jump and (Jack) Gorham in the triple jump.
Running Highlights
A trio of Warriors secured top-10 finishes in the 55m dash which included Charlery taking home the crown with the sixth quickest time in program history at 6.51. Sophomore Justin Gockley finished fourth at 6.68 and freshman Ragiariki Lewis took seventh with a time of 6.72.
ESU recorded second and third place finishes in the 55m hurdles led by senior Kobe Jenkins as the runner-up with a time of 7.91, followed by Lewis at 8.00.
The Warriors flexed their muscles in the 400m as ESU earned five of the top-8 finishers led by Limberg in first place with a time of 51.14. Junior Ryan Ditty (51.23) was the runner up, junior Zephyr Crestwell (51.61) took third, sophomore Jaylen Morrison (51.72) was fourth and junior Trey Boyd (53.02) rounded out the finishes in eighth.
ESU concluded the day on track with another victory as the combination of Tyler Boone, Costa, Ditty and Boyd clocked a time of 3:27.66 to finish in first place.
Field Event Highlights
Voto continued his impressive weekend as the sophomore took first place in the weight throw with a personal-best toss of 18.60m (61-0) on his third attempt. The Sayreville, N.J. native extended his NCAA provisional mark and continued to climb the ranks in the school record book as he moved up to third all-time. Sophomore Josh Meshach finished eighth with a personal-best mark of 13.36m (43-10).
ESU claimed the top three spots in the high jump led by Johnson, who cleared the bar at a personal-best height of 1.98m (6-6). Aaron Sanchez was the runner-up as the junior leaped over 1.98m (6-6) on his second attempt while freshman Drew Domurat finished third at 1.83m (6-0).
Costa claimed the title in the pole vault as the sophomore cleared the bar at a personal-best height of 4.50m (14-9 ¼) on his first attempt, while freshman Carlton Wise took third at 4.05m (13-3 ½).
On his way to a first-place finish in the long jump, Gorham leaped an NCAA provisional and personal-best mark of 7.18m (23-6 ¾) on his fifth attempt. With his performance, Gorham moved into seventh all-time in the ESU record book. Gilchrist was not far behind in third as the freshman posted a personal-best and PSAC automatic qualifying mark of 6.76m (22-2 ¼), while fellow classmate Nasir Heard finished seventh following a career-best leap of 6.29m (20-7 ¾).
Returning to the sand pit for the triple jump, Gorham recorded his second first-place finish of the day as the junior leaped a PSAC automatic qualifying mark of 13.75m (45-1 ¼) on his final attempt. Heard finished as the runner-up in the event after leaping 13.03m (42-9).
A dominating performance in the field events for ESU concluded with the shot put as Gorham took home the title with a mark of 16.93m (55-6 ½), while Voto delivered the fourth furthest toss in school history at 16.42m (53-10 ½) to finish second place. Will Mattei Jr. was sixth following a season-best throw of 14.59m (47-10 ½) and Meshach finished ninth at 13.59m (44-7).
