STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Destiny Thompson highlighted the final tune up for the East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team as the graduate student tied the school record time in the 200m at the Fastrack National Invite on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
On her way to a runner-up finish in the event, Thompson matched the program record set back in 2015 by Danielle Smith as she crossed the line in 24.92. The Nanjemoy, Md. native now holds indoor school records in the 55m, 60m and 200m.
ESU also added three more PSAC automatic qualifying times which included a trio of freshmen in Bri Hennett (mile), Payton Falkenstein (mile) and Carla Bautista (800m).
Running Highlights
Hennett paced a quartet of Warriors in the mile as the freshman took 21st out 74 runners with a PSAC automatic qualifying time of 5:13.88, while graduate student Holly Chambers finished 24th after clocking a season-best mark of 5:15.71. Falkenstein was not far behind in 29th with a conference qualifying time of 5:18.61 and sophomore Megan Elgrim rounded out the finishes in 50th at a personal-best 5:30.84.
On her way to a 33rd place finish in the 800m, Bautista a conference automatic qualifying and personal-best time of 2:22.26.
In the 60m hurdles, freshman Makayla Smith finished 28th out of 47 runners with a time of 9.68 in Heat 4.
Freshman Chloe Domurat paced the Warriors in the 60m dash with a time of 8.20 to finish in 34th, while fellow classmate LeAnn Grier took 64th at 8.64.
Field Event Highlights
Samiyah Little paced a trio of Warriors in the weight throw as the junior finished fourth place after recording a mark of 16.64m (54-7) on her third attempt.
ESU recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in the pole vault as senior Nickolina Annelli led the way in sixth place at 3.35m (11-0), while fellow classmate Heather Gaughran took ninth with a height of 3.20m (10-6).
Madison Horahan rounded out the top-10 in the shot put as the junior tossed the spherical ball 11.97m (39-3 ¼) on her second throw.
In the long jump invitational, freshman Samantha Rosado finished 22nd after leaping 4.72m (15-5 ¾) on her first attempt. She returned to the sand pit for the triple jump and recorded a ninth place finish with a mark of 10.80m (35-5 ¼).
