Charlery Breaks 200m School Record, Warriors Add 15 PSAC Marks at Monmouth Spring Opener

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Sophomore Miguel Charlery surpassed a 15-year-old school record in the 200m and the East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team added 15 PSAC automatic qualifying marks on day two of the Monmouth Spring Opener at Kessler Stadium.

Charlery, who also recorded an NCAA provisional time in the 200m, blazed down the track in 21.21 seconds to eclipse the previous program record best time of 21.30, set by Andrew McCloskey back in 2009.

 

Zach Nissley added the Warriors' third NCAA provisional of the season and second of the day as the junior launched the javelin 59.25m (194-4).

Posting additional conference automatic qualifying marks and time for ESU was Charlery (200m), Tyler Boone (200m), Kobe Jenkins (110m hurdles), Joshua Rand (100m hurdles), Liam Beifus (400m hurdles), Evan Wooby (3000m steeplechase), Aaron Sanchez (high jump), Chris Costa (pole vault), Bryson Gilchrist (long jump), Jack Gorham (long jump), Jaden Johnson (triple jump), Samuel Chedester (triple jump), Cole Gorham (shot put), Anthony Voto (shot put) and Nissley (javelin) in their respective events.

Additionally, the Warriors won three events as Cole Gorham claimed the title in the shot put, Jaden Johnson took first place in the triple jump and Tim Gale was triumphant in the 800m.

Running Highlights

On his way to eclipsing the school record in the 200m, Charlery finished as the runner-up while Boone was right behind in third place with the second fastest time in school history at 21.23. Also competing for the Warriors was Jaylen Morrison (14th – 22.53), Ryan Ditty (16th – 22.60), Justin Gockley (21st – 22.88) and Evan Clark (23rd – 23.02).

Gale continued to impress on the track as the freshman won the 800m with a time of 1:58.46, while Lucas Thaler (13th – 2:03.15), Andrew Dowdell (19th – 2:10.69) and Justin Walters (2:11.38) also ran for the Warriors.

ESU recorded three top-10 finishes and pair of PSAC automatic qualifying marks in the 110m hurdles as Jenkins led the way in fourth with a time of 15.22, while Rand followed in seventh after crossing the line in 15.58. Freshman Ragiariki Lewis rounded out the finishes in ninth at 15.63.

Beifus clocked a conference automatic qualifying time in the 400m hurdles as the junior finished as the runner-up at 55.92. Rand took fourth place with a time of 57.39 and Lewis finished fifth at 57.99.

Evan Wooby was the lone Warrior to compete in the 3000m steeplechase as the junior clocked a PSAC automatic qualifying and personal-best time of 9:53.67 to finish fifth.

The Warriors posted a quartet of top-10 finishes in the 400m led by Crestwell in third place with a time of 50.51. Zandrew Bowe finished seventh after clocking a time of 51.27, Evan Clark was right behind in eighth place at 51.51 and Try Boyd rounded out the top-10 with a time of 51.91.

ESU finished as the runner-up in the 4x100m relay as the combination of Gorham, Boone, Gilchrist and Charlery crossed the line in 42.48.

In the 4x400m, the Warrior quartet of Ditty, Crestwell, Charlery and Boyd notched a third place finish with a time of 3:22.10.

In the 100m dash, Gockley (11.07) finished 11th, Zandray Thompson (11.25) followed in 16th and Ben Terry (11.27) took 18th.

Field Highlights

Enroute to capturing the shot put title, Cole Gorham launched the spherical ball 16.35m (53-7 ¾) on his fifth throw, while Voto recorded a sixth place finish at 14.86m (48-9). Joshua Meshach rounded out the top-10 after recording a mark of 12.95m (42-6).

Johnson claimed the triple jump title after leaping 14.40m (47-3) on his third attempt and Chedester finished third place with a mark of 13.95m (45-9 ¼). Freshman Nasir Heard took ninth at 13.30m (43-7 ¾).

The Warriors had four top-seven finishes in the long jump, led by Gilchrist in second place as the freshman leaped 6.98m (22-10 ¾) on his first attempt. Jack Gorham was not far behind in fifth with a PSAC mark of 6.93m (22-9), Daniel Smith followed in sixth place at 6.68m (21-11) and Chedester took seventh after leaping 6.67m (21-10 ¾).

In the pole vault, Costa notched an eighth place finish with a PSAC automatic qualifying height of 4.40m (14-5 ¼), while freshman Carlton Wise took 11th at 4.10m (13-5 ¼).

On his way to a fifth place finish in the javelin, Nissley posted an NCAA provisional and PSAC automatic qualifying mark of 59.25m (194-4) on his fourth throw. Freshmen Nicholas Cruz (49.41m – 162-1), Marcus McNiel (44.28m – 145-3) and Jace Hersh (38.35m – 125-10) finished 11th, 14th and 17th respectively in their ESU debuts.

In the high jump, Sanchez recorded a runner-up finish in the event as the junior eclipsed the bar at a PSAC automatic qualifying height of 1.90m (6-2 ¾) on his first attempt.
