Gorham Extends Discus Record at Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG – Cole Gorham highlighted the East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday as the junior extended his own school record in the discus for the second time in as many weeks at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.  

Gorham cleared his previous record by over two feet with a mark of 53.80m (176-6) as the junior recorded the throw on his final attempt to win the event for the third straight week. The Kingston, Pa. native continues to lead the PSAC with his performance and ranks 10th in NCAA Division II.

Running Highlights

Landon Boyle led a quartet of Warriors in the unseeded 5000m as the sophomore took 14th overall and second in Heat 1 with a PSAC automatic qualifying time of 15:19.81, while Brian McGarrity (15:30.66), Evan Wooby (15:35.20) and Ethan Holcomb (15:42.21) followed in 27th, 33rd and 40th place respectively.

Field Highlights

Alongside Gorham's first place finish in the discus was sophomore Anthony Voto, who notched an eighth place finish with a personal-best throw of 50.38m (165-3) to move up to third all-time in the ESU record books. Josh Meshach was just shy of a conference automatic qualifying mark as the sophomore finished 30th with a season-best toss of 41.48m (136-1).

Gorham's impressive day continued in the shot put as the junior came in fourth place with a personal-best mark of 17.17m (56-4) on his fifth throw to slide up to second all-time in program history. Voto secured a 14th-place finish after launching the spherical ball 15.29m (50-2).

Jack Gorham paced a trio of Warriors in the long jump as the junior posted a season-best leap of 6.94m (22-9 ¼) on his first attempt to finish eighth place. Freshmen Bryson Gilchrist (6.61m – 21-8 ¼) and Samuel Chedester (6.26m – 20-6 ½) took 21st and 31st respectively.

Junior Zach Nissley secured a fifth place finish in the javelin after notching a mark of 58.70m (192-7) on his third attempt while freshman Nicholas Cruz (47.08m – 154-5) and Marcus McNeil (45.54m – 149-5) were 30th and 34th respectively.

In the high jump, junior Aaron Sanchez and freshman Drew Domurat finished in a tie for 13th as the duo both cleared the bar at 1.88m (6-2) on their first attempts.
